Volleyball Falters at New Hampshire

Bearcats post 10 service aces for third double-digit performance this season

DURHAM, N.H. (binghamton.edu) - Binghamton Volleyball (12-8, 2-2) fell to New Hampshire (12-7, 3-1), 3-0, Sunday afternoon inside Lundholm Gymnasium

HOW IT HAPPENED 
The Bearcats and Wildcats were well matched in the first two sets, battling to 25 tie scores and nine lead changes. Binghamton used a 6-0 run to go up 18-14 before UNH chipped away to tie it up at 23-23. Headed into extras, the Bearcats saved a set point before dropping the frame 28-26. 

Both opponents stayed close once again in the second frame with neither leading by more than three scores. Binghamton mounted a 21-19 advantage until New Hampshire registered five consecutive points to lead, 24-21. Tsvetelina Ilieva recorded two kills for two more before the Wildcats closed it out, 25-23. 

UNH continued its momentum with a 25-21 third-set victory to claim the match win. New Hampshire outhit the visiting team .317-182 with a match-high 17 kills in the final frame.

MATCH NOTES 
  • The Bearcats lead the Wildcats in aces, 10-5, the third time this season the team has recorded double-digits from the service line. Binghamton ranks second in the America East with 1.79 service aces per set.
  • Tsvetelina Ilieva recorded 25 kills and matched her career-best with six service aces against New Hampshire for a season-high 32 points. The performance was her third consecutive and seventh this fall with 20 or more assists. 
  • Ella Schabort chipped in a team-high 14 digs and three kills, her fourth match of the campaign with double-digit digs. 

UP NEXT 
Next up, the Bearcats compete at Colgate, Wednesday, Oct.16. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
