VESTAL, N.Y. – Seniors
Elijah Lanfear and
Lauren Kuzma each won three events, highlighting Binghamton's split against Bryant in a swimming & diving dual meet this weekend at the Saunders Aquatic Center. The two-day meet concluded on Saturday, with the Bearcat men (2-0) winning 232-121 and the women (1-1) finishing within 195-158 of the Bulldogs.
Lanfear – who now has six individual victories in two meets so far this season – swept the men's  100 back (50.34), 50 free (20.74) and the 100 fly (48.50). Kuzma, meanwhile, captured the women's 100 breast (1:03.81), 400 IM (4:28.83) and 200 breast (2:17.33). It marked the first time in her career that Kuzma has won three individual events in a meet.
The meet against Bryant was also highlighted by the women's 400 free relay team's pool record of 3:30.00. The Bearcat quartet of juniors
Maria Pignatelli and
Celia Webster, sophomore
Juliette Phillips and freshman
Leonor Coelho broke the previous mark of 3:31.68, which was set by Army back in 2015.
In addition, there were four Binghamton swimmers who won a pair of individual events against Bryant. Pignatelli swept the women's 50 free (24.28) and 100 free (52.53), junior
Liam Preston took top honors in the men's 200 free (1:40.44) and 100 free (46.46), sophomore
Harrison Lambert was victorious in the men's 200 fly (1:52.29) and 400 IM (4:07.02) and freshman
Tyler Schultz was first in the 100 breast (57.10) and 200 IM (1:55.66).
Other individual winners for Binghamton were Coelho in the women's 200 free (1:54,57), freshman
Evan Peters in the men's 200 back (1:50.69) and fellow freshman
Amir Sadykov in the men's 200 breast (2:07.34).
Binghamton swept all four men's relays. The 200 free relay team of Peters, Preston, sophomore
Cullin Cole and freshman
Ryaan Alshami clocked a time of 1:23.64. The 400 medley relay team of Preston, Schultz, Lanfear and Peters recorded a time of 3:25.17. In the 200 medley relay, Schultz, Lanfear, Cole and junior
Max Kaback finished with a time of 1:32.06. Finally, the first-place 400 free relay team included Preston, Cole, Peters and freshman
Cameron Stetzer and finished with a time of 3:04.27.
The Bearcat women, meanwhile, also won the 400 medley relay. That quartet included Kuzma, Pignatelli, Nowak and Coelho and recorded a time of 3:40.90.
The Binghamton men scored important points in the diving events. Bryant's Christopher Buonocore – the reigning America East Diver of the Year – swept both the one- and three-meter events. Binghamton, however, took the next three places in both events as
Jacob Koclanis, sophomore
Dylan Norby and junior
David Marshall went 2-3-4 each time.
Lambert's stellar meet also included close second-place finishes to Bryant's Leo Luna – the defending America East champion - in both the 500 free and 1000 free.
Freshman
Natalie Kassirer was a close second in the women's 500 free to defending America East champion Makayla Pierce. She was also second to Kuzma in the 400 IM as well as the runner up to Clara Steen of Bryant in the 200 IM.
In total – there were seven defending America East individual champions between the two programs that took part in the two-day meet.
Binghamton heads to Bucknell next Saturday for a noon meet.
