Volleyball Vanquishes Bryant, 3-1

Bearcats improve to 2-1 in America East competition

VESTAL, N.Y. (binghamtonbearcats.com) - Binghamton Volleyball (12-6, 2-1) pulled off a tough, America East win over Bryant (14-5, 1-1), 3-1, Sunday afternoon inside the Events Center. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 
The Bearcats and the Bulldogs started with a competitive first set featuring a match-high 17 tie scores and five lead changes. Binghamton hit a contest-best .447 in the frame and saved three set points in lieu to a dramatic 33-31, Bearcat set win. 

Bryant dominated the second stanza, 25-8. The visiting team registered a .455 attack percentage and held Binghamton to just four kills in the set. 

The Bearcats bounced back with a tight victory in the third set. Facing set point at 24-21, Binghamton scored four straight to go up 25-24. Bryant tacked on one more to tie it up before the Bearcats closed out the set, 27-25. 

Binghamton continued its momentum in the fourth and went on a 13-1 run to earn the early 15-5 advantage. The Bulldogs didn't back down, adding 12 more points, but were unable to overcome the home team and fell 25-17 in the final set. 

MATCH NOTES 
  • Tsvetelina Ilieva posted a team-high 21 kills in the victory, her fifth performance with 20 or more kills this season. Her 15th straight match with double-digit kills, Ilieva continues to rank first in the America East with 4.61 kills and 5.33 points per set. The fifth-year chipped in a team-best five blocks to earn 23.5 points this afternoon. 
  • Misa Dlouha recorded 10 kills at a .350 attack percentage with four blocks, her third match in double-digits this fall. Dlouha has hit .350 in nine matches this season and sits fifth in the conference with a .302 hitting percentage. 
  • Lottie Scully registered 41 assists for Binghamton, the fourth most of any America East setter in a match this fall. The total is her second-best this season after she tallied 56 vs. LIU, Sept. 29. 
  • Ella Schabort chipped in 10 kills at .286 with seven digs and three blocks vs. Bryant, her 13th match this season with double-digit kills.
  • Stephanie Gatto earned a team-high five blocks in the win, a season-best number at net for the graduate middle blocker. 

UP NEXT 
Next up, the Bearcats travel to Philadelphia, Pa., Wednesday, Oct. 9, to take on Temple. Match time is scheduled for 12 p.m.
