Volleyball Falls to Temple in Five Sets

Scully posts third double-double, reaches 2,000 career assists

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (binghamtonbearcats.com) - Binghamton Volleyball (12-7, 2-1) dropped a close match to Temple (8-9, 1-3), 3-2, Wednesday afternoon inside McGonigle Hall. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 
The Bearcats and the Owls traded the lead three times early in the first set before Binghamton used a 8-1 run to go up 22-17. Temple tacked on five more points until the Bearcats closed out the frame with two straight scores, 25-22. 

The Owls bounced back to win the second stanza, 25-13, and third set, 25-15. Temple outhit Binghamton .344 to .121 across the two frames to earn a 2-1 set advantage. 

The Bearcats came alive in the fourth set to win the fourth set, 25-14, and record a match-high .542 attack percentage. Tsvetelina Ilieva registered nine of Binghamton's 15 kills at a .750 clip the frame. 

Both opponents battled in a fifth set that featured five tie scores and three lead changes. After Temple grabbed a 7-4 edge, Binghamton chipped away to equal it at 11-11. The Owls won four of the next six points to win the set, 15-13. 

MATCH NOTES 
  • Lottie Scully recorded her 2,000th assist with 42 against Temple. Scully ranks sixth in Binghamton program history with 2,018 career assists. With 13 digs this afternoon, the performance was her third double-double of the season and third with 40 or more assists. 
  • The Bearcats outblocked Temple, 11-8, the thirteenth time this fall Binghamton has posted more blocks than its opponents. The Bearcats rank first in the America East with 165.5 total blocks. 
  • Ilieva recorded 21 kills in the loss, her sixth match of the season with 20 or more kills. The performance was her second consecutive with 20 or more kills after she put up 21 vs. Bryant Sunday afternoon, Oct. 6. 
  • Misa Dlouha nabbed a career-high 16 kills at .444 against the Owls, her second straight contest in double-digits and fourth this year. Dlouha hit .400 or better in ten matches this fall and ranks fourth in the America East with a .313 season clip. 
  • Stephanie Gatto led the Bearcats at net for the second consecutive match, collecting a season-high six blocks vs. Temple. 
UP NEXT 
Next up, the Bearcats travel to Durham, N.H., Sunday, Oct. 13, to take on America East foe New Hampshire. Match time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
