Volleyball Claws Out 3-2 Win at Bryant

Bearcats pick up third straight America East victory

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (binghamtonbearcats.com) - Binghamton Volleyball (15-9, 5-2) clawed out an important America East victory over Bryant (18-7, 4-3), 3-2, Friday night inside Chace Athletic Center. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
Bryant started the match on top with a 25-22 first set win. Despite the stanza loss, the Bearcats notched a match-high .423 attack percentage in the first frame. 

Binghamton responded with a 10-4 run to lead 13-8 early in the second set. The Bearcats and the Bulldogs traded points until Binghamton put up three straight to earn a 25-19 stanza victory. 

The Bearcats continued their momentum in the third, winning 10 of the first 13 points to gain a 10-3 advantage. Bryant scored four consecutive points to cut Binghamton's edge to two, 19-17, until a 6-0 Bearcat run ended the set 25-17. 

Bryant's 25-22 fourth set victory leveled the score at two frames apiece. The Bulldogs registered 14 kills at .130 to force a final frame. 

Binghamton jumped out to a 8-2 lead in the fifth set before Bryant registered four straight points to cause a Bearcat timeout. Both opponents went back and forth until two Bulldog errors and a Danit Cohen service ace gave Binghamton a 13-8 advantage. Bryant tacked on two more till the Bearcats closed the frame out with back-to-back scores, 15-10. 

MATCH NOTES 
  • Binghamton out-blocked Bryant, 14-3, its ninth match in double-digits at net this season
  • Tsvetelina Ilieva notched a team-high 18 kills and 10 digs vs. the Bulldogs, her ninth double-double of the year for the Bearcats. 
  • Ella Schabort posted her own double-double with a Bearcat-best 16 digs and 13 kills, her fourth double-double of the fall. 
  • Misa Dlouha recorded 12 kills on 20 perfect swings for a .600 attack percentage, her fourth errorless performance of the season. The sophomore also chipped in a career-high nine digs and four blocks for 15.5 points. 
  • Johanna Remy had her own career night with a team-high eight block assists against the Bulldogs.
  • Lottie Scully tallied 42 assists in the victory, her fifth match this fall with 40 or more helpers. 

UP NEXT 
Binghamton hosts UMBC, Friday, Nov. 8, inside the Events Center for International Student Night and Staff Appreciation. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
