Volleyball Claims America East Regular Season Title

Binghamton sweeps NJIT, 3-0, for first title since 2022

NEWARK, N.J. (binghamtonbearcats.com) - Binghamton Volleyball (19-9, 8-2) swept NJIT (5-23, 0-10), 3-0, to claim the America East Regular Season title Sunday afternoon inside the Joel and Diane Bloom Wellness & Events Center. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 
The Bearcats and the Highlanders stayed close in the first set until Binghamton recorded five straight points to win the frame, 25-19. The Bearcats held NJIT to a -.067 hitting percentage in the first set. 

Binghamton furthered its momentum in the second set, establishing an early 7-3 advantage over the home team. The Bearcats continued to chip away at the Highlanders, winning eight of the final 10 points to earn a 25-11 stanza victory. 

Binghamton took the early lead once again in the third set after it used a 7-1 run to gain a 14-6 edge. Both opponents went back and forth until the Bearcats scored four consecutive to go up 21-12.  NJIT tacked on three more points but was unable to stop Binghamton, who won the frame, 25-15. 

MATCH NOTES 
  • With the 3-0 win over NJIT today, Binghamton claimed its second America East Regular title in program history and first since 2022. 
  • Lottie Scully posted her fourth consecutive double-double with 33 assists and 11 digs this afternoon, her eighth of the season. Scully leads the America East with 8.73 assists per set and 917 total assists. 
  • Tsvetelina Ilieva led the Bearcats with 13 kills and two service aces in the win. The performance is Ilieva's 25th consecutive match with double digit kills. 
  • Ella Schabort also recorded double figures with 11 kills at .409 along with two service aces and eight digs against NJIT, her fourth match this fall hitting .400 or better. 
  • Viktoria Dimitrova notched a team-best seven blocks in the victory, a season-high mark for the freshman. 
  • Middle blockers Misa Dlouha and Johanna Remy combined for 12 blocks, nine kills and one service ace for 16.5 total points vs. the Highlanders 
UP NEXT
Binghamton will host the America East Championship, Nov. 22-23, inside the Events Center. No. 1 Binghamton faces No. 4 UAlbany, Friday, Nov. 22 at 4 p.m. while No. 2 New Hampshire plays No. 3 UMBC at 7 p.m. The winner of both matches will compete the following day, Saturday, Nov. 23, at 4 p.m.
