Volleyball Falls to UAlbany in America East Semifinal

Tsvetelina Ilieva named to All-Championship Team

VESTAL, N.Y. (binghamtonbearcats.com) - Binghamton Volleyball (19-10, 8-2) fell to No. 4 UAlbany in the America East Championship Semifinals, 3-1, inside the Events Center Friday night. 

Three-time America East Player of the Year Tsvetelina Ilieva received the team's sole All-Championship Team honor after the conclusion of the match. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 
UAlbany started off the match with a 6-0 run and continued to add onto their lead until Binghamton scored three straight to tie it at 21. The Great Danes tacked on one more point before the Bearcats closed it out with four consecutive points, 25-22. 

UAlbany came back to command the second set, 25-12, hitting a match-high .464 attack percentage while holding Binghamton to just six kills in the frame. 

The Great Danes continued their momentum in the third set, using a 6-0 run to overcome an early Bearcat advantage and lead 9-7. Both opponents traded points until UAlbany recorded three straight points to force a set point, 24-20. Binghamton added on another before UAlbany claimed the frame victory, 25-21. 

The Bearcats grabbed the first six of seven points to register an early edge in the fourth set. The Great Danes chipped away at the Binghamton defense, going on a 7-1 run to tie the frame at 15. UAlbany added to its lead, 20-17, before Binghamton came back to make it even, 23-23. The Great Danes capitalized on two Bearcat attack errors to win the set, 25-23, and the match, 3-1.  

MATCH NOTES 
  • Binghamton registered double digit 13th time this year with 12 against UAlbany. The Bearcats led the Great Danes 12-8 in team blocks. 
  • Tsvetelina Ilieva received her second consecutive All-Championship Team honor after leading the Bearcats with 20 kills and 15 digs at .327, her 12th double-double and 11th match with 20 or more kills this season 
  • Lottie Scully notched her ninth double-double this fall with 39 assists and 11 digs against the Great Danes. 
  • Misa Dlouha and Ella Schabort chipped in nine kills apiece. Dlouha lead the Bearcats with six blocks at net.
