Men’s Soccer Heads to AE Quarterfinals at UMBC

Bearcats and Retrievers kick off Saturday at 7 p.m.

STORY LINES

- For the third consecutive year, Binghamton (8-6-4) and UMBC (7-6-4) square off in Baltimore for an America East quarterfinal match. The Bearcats won 3-2 in overtime two years ago and 1-0 last season. The winner of Saturday's game heads to Vermont for a semifinal contest on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

- The Bearcats are making their third straight appearance in the America East Tournament. In 16 previous trips since 2003, Binghamton is 11-11-7 overall. The Bearcats won the 2003 and 2006 championships and have advanced to the finals five other times (2004, 2005, 2007, 2008 & 2015).

- Saturday marks the fifth postseason meeting between Binghamton and UMBC. The Bearcats hold a 4-1-0 lead in the playoff series. Three out of the previous five matches have been in Baltimore.

- Earlier in the season (Sept. 28), UMBC defeated Binghamton 2-0 on Homecoming Weekend at the Bearcats Sports Complex.

- Three Bearcat players have recorded a team-best eight total points so far this season. They include sophomore forward Anthony Randazzo (four goals) as well as senior back Luke Yates and redshirt sophomore forward Cailen Thomas (three goals and two assists each).

- Freshman back Ryan Gillon has been named to the America East All-Rookie Team. Graduate student goalkeeper Dylan McDermott, meanwhile, has been selected to the conference's All-Academic team. 

- McDermott, who was also named the America East Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 20, has recorded four solo shutouts so far this season. Gillon was named the America East's Rookie of the Week back on Sept. 23 

- Joseph Picatto and Ryan Calheira lead the Retrievers with five goals each. Hans Nassieh has a team-best nine assists - two of which came in UMBC's Sept. 28 win over Binghamton. All three players earned second-team all-conference honors from the America East.
