Men's basketball stretches win streak with 85-60 victory

Walker nets game-high 22 as Bearcats roll over Lancaster Bible for fourth straight

VESTAL, N.Y. - Senior guard Chris Walker scored a game-high 22 points and Binghamton men's basketball shot 63% in an 85-60 win over visiting Lancaster Bible Sunday afternoon at Dr. Bai Lee Court at the Events Center.

The lopsided victory stretched the Bearcats' win streak to a season-high four games, matching the longest in seven years.

Walker (7-of-8 FG) scored 17 of his points in the second half, after the Bearcats had already staked themselves to a 12-point cushion, thanks to 71% accuracy in the opening period. The output continued a scoring surge for Walker, who is averaging 24.0 points in his last three games.

Binghamton put four in double figures and were plus 15 on the glass against their Division III foes. In addition to Walker, the Bearcats got 13 points from graduate forward Ben Callahan-Gold, 12 from graduate guard Tymu Chenery and 11 from sophomore guard Evan Ashe. Senior forward Nehemiah Benson added nine points and a game-high eight boards.

"It was a good game for us to play coming off exams," head coach Levell Sanders said. "If we share the ball we can pretty much get any shot we want. I thought we could've been more aggressive offensively. We could've played a lot better but the good thing about playing this team today is we will see the same style (running up and down the court, shooting 3s) when we face UMBC in our conference opener. We have to be ready to play against a team like that. It's good when you can continue to win while you take things away from the game that you need to improve. We have to be better."

Binghamton led 19-18 halfway through the first half before embarking on a 12-2 run that spanned 3:34. Then after the Chargers brought the margin back to seven with 4:25 left in the half, the Bearcats closed the half with a 9-4 edge to lead 46-34 at intermission. Binghamton shot 56% in the second half and limited LBC to 31% shooting in the second half to close it out.

The Bearcats host Mercyhurst Wednesday night in their final home game before the New Year.
