Women’s Basketball Defeats NJIT 68-48 on Senior Day

Fauria scores game-high 16 points as Bearcats win second straight game

VESTAL, N.Y. — Sophomore forward Camryn Fauria scored a game-high 16 points, powering Binghamton (11-15, 6-7 AE) to a 68-48 victory over NJIT (9-16, 1-11 AE) in an America East women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at Dr. Bai Lee Court at the Events Center. The contest marked the Bearcats' annual Senior Day Game.

Fauria went 7-for-8 from the field and made both of her free throws. She also grabbed a game-high seven rebounds, dished out two assists and recorded two steals.

Junior forward Genevieve Coleman added nine points while four Bearcats chipped in eight points each - graduate student guard Denai Bowman, redshirt sophomore guard Jadyn Weltz, fellow redshirt sophomore guard Ella Wanzer, and sophomore guard Meghan Casey

NJIT went on a 10-2 run in a span of 3:32 in the first period to take an early 10-6 lead. Binghamton, however, responded with a 14-0 run of its own in a span of 3:53 to take a  22-12 lead. Freshman guard Bella Pucci scored five points and Fauria added four points during that stretch.

The Bearcats put the game out of reach when they went on a 17-3 run in a span of 5:06 to take a commanding 68-46 lead. Weltz netted six points and Casey scored five points during that stretch.

"We were strong with the basketball today," head coach Bethann Shapiro Ord said. "Our rebounding was good and we continued to attack in the fourth period went we went on that last run."

Weltz also dished out a game-high four assists while Wanzer blocked a team-high two shots.

Marissa Gingrich led the Highlanders with 13 points. Kenna Squier and Trinity Williams each grabbed a team-high six rebounds. Williams, who is ranked first in the conference in blocks, rejected a game-high three shots.

As a team, Binghamton shot 46.7 percent from the field (28-of-60). The Bearcats also held a 20-10 lead in points off of turnovers.

Binghamton hosts UMass Lowell in the final home game of the regular season on Thursday at 6:07 p.m.
