VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton track & field teams – which are coming off of impressive performances at the America East Indoor Championships last week – return to Boston this weekend for the ECAC/IC4A Division I Indoor Championships. The three-day meet, which begins on Friday, will be held at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center. The women's meet falls under the jurisdiction of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) while the men's competition will be sanctioned by the Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America (IC4A).
The ECAC consists of 220 member institutions – 78 of which compete at the NCAA Division I level – ranging in location from Maine to South Carolina and west to Missouri. All of them are members of at least one other athletic conference. Colleges and universities eligible to compete at the IC4A Championships, meanwhile, are those in the New England and Mid-Atlantic States, north and inclusive of Maryland and Delaware.
On the women's side, Binghamton has a pair of America East individual champions taking part in the ECAC meet this weekend. Sophomore
Alyssa Armitage broke the conference record in the pole vault last week and was named the Most Outstanding Women's Field Performer. Junior
Hillary Abankwa, meanwhile, captured the 500 title.
In addition, three Bearcat women who are competing at the ECAC meet earned all-conference honors last week as top-three finishers. They include freshman
Kaya Duran (500), senior
Jenna Chan (60 hurdles) and junior
Lucciana Robertson.
Leading the Bearcat men at the IC4A meet are a pair of America East individual champions as well as the first-place 4x400 relay team. Redshirt freshman
Brian Luciano won the conference title in the weight throw last week and was named the meet's Most Outstanding Men's Rookie. Senior
Brandon Love took top honors in the pole vault. The 4x400 relay team includes juniors
Joey Cardascia and
Oliver Madariaga, sophomore
Samson Joseph and senior
Marcus Johnson.
All-conference performers on the men's side who are competing this weekend include junior
Jaston Ormsby (weight throw), graduate student
Adrian Rippstein (60 hurdles) and fifth-year senior
Marcrene Jeannot (triple jump).
At last year's ECAC indoor meet – which was also held at the Boston Track & Tennis Center - the Bearcat women placed a program-best 10
th overall while the men were 26
th. Binghamton men's team placed a program-best 10
th overall at the 2020 indoor meet.
The 2024 ECAC/IC4A Indoor Championships conclude a season that saw the Bearcat women place second at the America East meet while the men were third. In the process, the Binghamton women's squad recorded its best finish at the event since 2014.
