Binghamton set to compete in fourth NEC match of the season

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (BUBearcats.com) - The Binghamton women's tennis team (0-6, 0-3) is set to host Merrimack Sunday inside the Lane-Starke Tennis Center. Match time is slated for 2 p.m.

The Bearcats look for their first conference win of the young season against the Warriors. After dropping two NEC matches this fall to Le Moyne, Sept. 17, and Saint Francis (Pa.), Oct. 28, BU lost its last league competition to Sacred Heart, 7-0, Jan. 26.

Last time out, Binghamton traveled to West Point, N.Y., to play back-to-back weekend matches against Sacred Heart and Army. BU was unable to grab a win with a 7-0 loss to the Pioneers, Jan. 26, and 4-0 to the Black Knights, Jan. 27.

Britney Korir made her spring debut for BU at No. 6 singles last Friday, resulting in a 6-0, 6-2 win for SHU.

Maria Pereira and Nitya Vyas recorded BU's best doubles finish in the second slot against Army, earning three games before dropping the match 6-3. After falling 6-0 in the first set, Caterina Casadei mounted a 4-1 comeback in the second set before the Black Knights claimed the total match victory.

Next up. Binghamton heads to Olean, N.Y. for a non conference contest at St. Bonaventure, Feb. 9. Match time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
