VESTAL, N.Y. (BUBearcats.com) - The Binghamton women's lacrosse team (4-4) will play host to Cornell (4-1, 2-0) tomorrow, Tuesday, March 12, at the Bearcat Sports Complex. First draw is slated for 4 p.m. 


The Bearcats seek their fifth win of the season over the Big Red after dropping their last two games to Coastal Carolina, March 6, and Niagara, March 9. Olivia Muscolino led Binghamton with two goals while Hayley Weltner, Kristen Scheidel and Madison Murphy added one apiece. Abigail Carroll and Carla Curth chipped in one assist each. 

Weltner earned a team-best four draw controls to climb to first place in program history for career draw controls with 205. The senior's performance today in the circle broke Rebecca Golderman's (2015-19) previous program record of 202. 

Binghamton is currently fifth in the America East team standings behind UMass Lowell (8-0), Bryant (5-3), UMBC (5-3), Vermont (5-3). BU leads the conference in shots per game (32.63) and woman-up goals per game (2.13). 

BU ranks 25th in the country in shots per game. The Bearcats also sit 34th in draw control percentage and 35th nationally in draw controls per game.  

Carroll ranks second place among all AE players in shots per game (8.25) and third in points per game (4.50). Her assists per game (1.63) and goals per game (2.88) averages rank her fourth and fifth, respectively, in the conference overall. The junior midfielder owns 13th nationally in shots per game. 

Three Bearcats rank in the top-10 players in the conference for draw controls per game with Welter in second (5.75 avg), Carroll in fourth (5.00 avg) and Scheidel in eighth (3.75 avg). Weltner's average ranks her 33rd in the country in the category. 

Cornell leads the all-time series 9-1 over Binghamton. BU's only win over the Big Red came 13-12 last season, the first win in program history against an Ivy League opponent for the Bearcats. 

The Big Red are off to a hot start this season with a 4-1 record. The Purple Eagles claimed victories over California, Le Moyne, Dartmouth and Columbia while dropping one game at No. 15 Virginia. 

Next up, Binghamton will open America East play at UAlbany, Saturday, March 16. Game time is slated for 2 p.m.
