URBANA, Md. –
Evan Sitts finished in the top 20 for the second time this season after he placed in a tie for 15th at the Carpetbagger Classic Sunday at Worthington Manor Golf Club.
The fifth year golfer shot 76/4-over par over the final 18 holes to end his two-round performance with a score of 74+76=150/6-over par. This is Sitts' seventh top 20 finish in his Binghamton career. His other finish in the top 20 this season came at the Lehigh Invitational, when he finished tied for fifth.
Overall, Binghamton finished seventh out of 12 teams with a score of 304+306=610/34-over par.
Ryan Millevoi, who recorded his first collegiate top 20 finish the prior weekend at Sacred Heart's Spring Break Invitational with a placement of being tied for 14th, nearly got his second when he finished Sunday tied for 22nd at 77+75=152/8-over par.
Brandon Conner kept pace by shooting 77/5-over par for the second-straight day to finish tied for 33rd at 154/10-over par.
"Overall, the weekend, it was just okay," said Binghamton Head Coach
Bernie Herceg. "I thought we'd be able to score a little bit better today, but the winds picked up and it was very gusty, very windy. It definitely cost us some shots down the stretch as we were trying to fight back. I think the wind really put a hamper on where we couldn't move up the leaderboard as aggressively as we wanted."
Tynan Jones, who was tied for 24th after Saturday's opening round score of 76/4-over par, would have his score for the second round dropped due to being the highest among the five Bearcats competing together. He shot 83/11-over par Sunday to finish the tournament tied for 54th at 159/15-over par. Tied with Jones was both
Harrison Blech and
Jackson Vesper, two of Binghamton's golfers who competed individually this weekend. Both golfers shot 80/8-over par Sunday after shooting 79/7-over par on Saturday.
Sean Shen, the last of the five Binghamton golfers competing as part of the team, improved from his opening round 83/11-over par with a 78/6-over par Sunday. He finished tied for 60th at 161/19-over par.
Shawn Colella would place 78th at 84+90=174/30-over par.
Mount St. Mary College and Rhode Island both finished tied for first on the team leaderboard at 591/15-over par. Ben Smith of Mount St. Mary's tied for medalist honors along with Wagner's Tyler Galantini at 144/even-par.
Binghamton will take a break from competition this week before returning to action the following week at the Southern Invitational from April 1-2 at The Falls Club in Lake Worth, Fla.
