Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BOILING SPRING, N.C. – Sophomore pitchers Brianna Roberts and Olivia Kennedy combined to throw a two-hit shutout, highlighting Binghamton's performance in the opening day of the Gardner Webb/Spring of the Springs Softball Invitational. The Bearcats (8-4) defeated North Carolina A&T 2-0 in the opener but lost 3-1 to Gardner Webb in the nightcap.

Roberts went the first 6.1 innings against the Aggies in the first game. She scattered the two hits but issued no walks and struck out a season-high 10 batters. Her record is now 2-3.

Kennedy, meanwhile, came on in relief in the top of the seventh inning and struck out the final two batters of the game. It marked her first save of the season.

Offensively, Roberts started off a two-run bottom of the second inning with a lead off double. She later scored the Bearcats' on an RBI single by redshirt junior third baseman Gabby Guerrero. Sophomore outfielder Bella Farina singled home Guerrero, padding the lead to 2-0.

Taking the loss was Amaya Kearse, who record dropped to 1-2.

Against Gardner Webb in the second game, Binghamton took a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly by freshman second baseman Maddy Dodig in the top of the first inning. The Bulldogs, however, tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning on an RBI single by Taylor Dreher.

It was a two-run bottom of the sixth inning by Gardner Webb that proved to be the difference. Ella Christopher tripled home the first run and scored one batter later on a single by Annicka McLauglin.
The Bearcats left the tying run at the plate when the game ended.

Andrea Lyon improved to 6-2 with the win while red shirt junior Lindsey Walter lost her first decision of the year.

Senior pitcher Allison L'Amoreaux went the first four innings for the Bearcats, allowing one run on two hits and striking out four batters. She did not record a decision and her record remains at 4-0. L'Amoreaux's ERA, however, improved to 2.54.
