VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton baseball closes out its regular season with a three-game set at NJIT Thursday through Saturday as both teams continue to jockey for playoff position in the America East standings. The top six teams will advance to the conference tournament, hosted by Binghamton on May 22-25. The Bearcats (20-26, 9-12 AE) and Highlanders (22-25, 10-10 AE) will play Thursday night and Friday and Saturday afternoons at Yogi Berra Stadium in Little Falls.
Binghamton is in fifth place, a half-game ahead of UAlbany (8-12) and 1.5 games ahead of seventh-place Maine (7-13). The Bearcats can clinch a spot in the tournament with one win over NJIT but can also secure a seed depending on how the Albany-Maine series unfolds. Binghamton can still grab a share of second in the standings (No. 3 seed) but can also be left out of the tournament. Six teams are battling for the five remaining spots (Bryant has already clinched the regular season title and No. 1 seed).
The Bearcats won back-to-back games over second-place UMBC last weekend to fortify their position. The team has been decimated by injuries all season and has had to use 45 different lineups in 46 games.

Nick Roselli is rounding into form after missing seven weeks. Roselli hit .615 (8-for-13) with with three home runs, two doubles and five RBI in the UMBC series. He hit home runs in all three games and his clutch 2-run blast was the walkoff hit in the 13th inning of Sunday's 5-3 victory. Roselli had a .706 on-base percentage and a 1.462 slugging percentage in the series. With his eight hits, Roselli raised his season average to .379. Senior right fielder
Mike Gunning has a share of the school single-season home record with 16. He is tied for second in the America East in home runs and is third in slugging (.664).
Binghamton leads the conference in fielding (.975) and is third in both hitting (.266) and pitching (5.44 ERA).
NJIT has already clinched a postseason spot and can finish as high as second. They are coming off a 5-4 win over Monmouth on Tuesday and have won six of their last eight. The Highlanders won two of three at UMass Lowell last weekend and took two of three from Bryant before that. The team ranks fifth in the America East in pitching (6.79) and sixth in both hitting (.261) and fielding (.959).
Back on March 15-17 in the conference-opening series, Binghamton took two of three from NJIT in Vestal, winning 8-1 and 7-5 before dropping the final 8-5. Senior infielder
Isaiah Corry was the hero in Game 2 with a walkoff grand slam in the bottom of the 10th inning. Binghamton leads the all-time series 22-9.
