ALBANY, N.Y. (BUBearcats.com) - The No. 2 seed Binghamton women's lacrosse team (10-6, 5-1) will face No. 3 UMBC (9-5, 4-2) in the semifinal round of the America East Championship, Friday, May 3, at UAlbany's John Fallon Field. First draw is slated for 4 p.m. on ESPN+.

Fresh off the program's first ever AE regular season title, the Bearcats seek their second victory in four tournament appearances. The program has appeared in three America East Championships in 2018, 2022 and 2023 and have claimed one victory. BU's sole postseason win came in its 12-10, 2023 semifinal win over Vermont.

After its semifinal victory last season, Binghamton fell just one goal short to hosts UAlbany, 14-13, in the final game. Three of four of the Bearcats' AE tournament games have been decided by two or less goals.

This season, BU has put together its second winning season in program history. With 10 wins, it's the second time Binghamton has reached double-digits in its win column and second consecutive five-win conference slate.

The team ended the 2024 campaign on a six game-win streak and recorded five victories with 20 or more goals. Six players registered 20 or more goals this spring while outsourcing opponents 222-173 over 16 games.

Binghamton finished the regular season atop the America East standings in four offensive categories. With 15.17 goals per game, 22.00 points per game and 6.83 assists per game, BU commanded its opponents in conference play.

Seven Bearcats took home eight All-Conference awards, the America East announced Thursday morning. Olivia Muscolino, Kristen Scheidel and Angelina Suau were all named to the conference's First Team while Madison Murphy and Hayley Weltner earned Second Team honors. Emma Blloshmi and Mia Forte were selected to the All-Rookie Team while Scheidel also picked up an All-Academic Team honor.

The eight honors are the second most the BU program has received in a single-season after the team took home nine in last spring. Binghamton also collected the second highest number of awards after UAlbany's 13.

The Bearcats will face off against UMBC for the second time this season on the road. BU claimed a 14-13 overtime win over the Retrievers, April 20. Gabriella Meli scored the game winner off an assist from Carla Curth that moved Binghamton into a tie for first place in the AE standings, which they kept for the remainder of the season, and clinched the team's third straight postseason appearance.

UMBC leads the all-time series over Binghamton, 16-5. Yet the teams last three match ups, two on the road and one at home, have all resulted in wins for BU. The Bearcats have outscored the Retrievers 52-40 across that three game span.

The winner of Friday's semifinals will face off for the 2024 America East Championship on Sunday at 10 a.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU and ESPN+. Defending Champion No. 1 UAlbany and No. 4 UMass Lowell are set to play the first semifinal game, Friday 1 p.m.
