Binghamton celebrates winning a second consecutive Cup as No. 1 program in America East

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton Athletics celebrated capturing its unprecedented second straight America East Commissioner's Cup as the No. 1 program in the conference with a press conference and photo availability Tuesday afternoon at the Events Center.

Binghamton outpaced runnerup UAlbany and the rest of the nine-team conference to repeat as Cup champions. After finishing higher than fifth just once in the previous decade, Binghamton has now won two straight titles to carry the mantel as the top overall athletics program in the America East. The Commissioner's Cup annually recognizes the strongest athletics program in the America East as determined by a scoring system which rewards a school for success both during the regular season and championship competition in the conference's 18 sports.

"I read the accolades our teams have accomplished this year and I almost don't believe them," University President Harvey Stenger said. "The number of championships ... the number of Coaches of the Year ... it's really something to be proud of."

"We can talk about winning now," Director of Athletics Eugene Marshall, Jr. said. "We win academically and we win athletically. Forbes has rated us one of the top 'Public Ivys' and now we've won back-to-back Commissioner's Cups. So that's something we can brag about and use for recruiting."

Binghamton crowned three regular season champions (women's soccer, women's lacrosse, softball) and had three America East tournament champions (women's cross country, men's swimming & diving, women's lacrosse). Women's soccer tallied the most points for the Bearcats with 43, thanks to an unbeaten, first-place regular season. Binghamton stood in second place after the fall and winter seasons before a strong spring vaulted the Bearcats into the top spot. Women's lacrosse provided 34 points after sharing the regular season title and winning the tournament in an historic 2024 campaign.

"We know we are in a special place here," head women's soccer coach Neel Bhattacharjee said. "It's a community here and we are honored and thrilled to do our part to contribute to winning the Cup."

"It's fun to be a part of winning collectively," head women's lacrosse coach Stephanie Allen said.
