Volleyball Selected Second in AE Preseason Coaches Poll

Ilieva, Dlouha garner Preseason All-Conference distinctions

BOSTON, Mass. (BUBearcats.com) - Binghamton Volleyball was picked to finish second in the America East by the league's coaches, the conference announced Monday afternoon. The Bearcats earned 20 points and one first-place vote. 

"We are looking forward to yet another competitive conference season," said Head Coach Allie Yaeger. "I know our players continue to strive towards a championship title and look forward to competing at a high level in conference play."

New this season, reigning Player of the Year Tsvetelina Ilieva and Rookie of the Year Misa Dlouha were picked to the first America East Preseason All-Conference honor roll. 

Last year's tournament champion UMBC took the top spot with 24 points and four first-place votes while New Hampshire followed with 18 points and one first-place vote. Bryant and UAlbany were next with 14 and nine points, respectively, while NJIT finished last with five points. 

The Bearcats 2023 season brought the team to the America East Championship for the second year in a row with a 15-13, 6-4 season record. After securing the tournament's third seed, Binghamton completed a 3-2 reverse sweep over New Hampshire to advance to the championship final for the first time since 2017. Despite falling 3-0 to UMBC in the final match, the Bearcats put together a multitude of team and individual season accolades..  

Ten players return to the court for Binghamton while nine newcomers look to make their first appearance this year. 

Binghamton opens the 2024 season with the Bearcat Classic at home inside the Events Center, Aug. 30-31. The team kicks off competition that Friday with matches against Merrimack at 10 a.m. and Toledo at 7 p.m. The following day the Bearcats face Bucknell at 1:30 p.m.
