Volleyball Sweeps VCU, Wins Rutgers Invitational

Bearcats roll to sixth-straight victory

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (BinghamtonBearcats.com) - Binghamton Volleyball (7-3) earned its sixth-straight victory with a win over VCU (1-4), 3-0, Friday night inside Jersey Mike's Arena. With its 3-0 win over hosts Rutgers yesterday, the Bearcats claimed the Rutgers Invitational title in the sweep.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Despite the Bearcats grabbing an early 3-0 to start the match, VCU led for the majority of the first set. Down 19-18, Binghamton registered six consecutive points to regain the advantage, 24-19. The Rams tacked on one more before a kill from Ella Schabort ended the frame, 25-20, for the Bearcats.

Binghamton commanded VCU in the second set, winning the frame by a 12-point margin, 25-13. The Bearcats hit a season-high .688 attack percentage in the frame and held their opponents to just a .100 clip. Binghamton out blocked the Rams 4-0 in the second set with Misa Dlouha and Lottie Scully registering two rejections apiece.

The final set was the most competitive of the night, featuring 10 tie scores and five lead changes. The Bearcats led first, 13-9, before the Rams mounted a comeback to take the advantage, 24-22. Binghamton then saved two VCU set points with a 4-0 run to win the third set, 26-24, and complete the sweep.

  • Viktoria Dimitrova chipped in seven kills on 12 errorless swings for a .583 attack percentage, the second perfect performance for the freshman this season.
