Volleyball Earns First AE Win Over UAlbany

Four Bearcats hit .300 or better in victory

VESTAL, N.Y. (binghamtonbearcats.com) - Binghamton Volleyball (10-5, 1-0) earned its first America East victory of the season over UAlbany (4-9, 0-1), 3-0, Friday night inside the Events Center. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 
Binghamton took an early 8-2 lead in the first set until a 7-0 run cemented the Bearcat edge, 24-15. UAlbany tacked on one more before a kill from Misa Dlouha ended the frame, 25-16, for the home team. 

The Bearcats continued its dominance in the second set by scoring six straight to lead by six, 12-6. Binghamton chipped away at UAlbany to own an impressive 23-11 advantage late. Back-to-back kills from Dimitrova finished the set, 25-12, Bearcats.

Binghamton closed the door in the final frame, jumping ahead 10-2 at the start of the set. The Bearcats held the Great Danes to 13 of the next 25 points before closing out the stanza with three straight, 25-15. 

MATCH NOTES
  • Reigning America East Player of the Week Tsvetelina Ilieva posted her fifth double-double of the season with a team-best 16 kills and 13 digs at a .300 clip in the victory. The performance was her 12th straight with double-digit kills and eighth time hitting .300 or better. 
  • Ella Schabort tallied 10 kills at a .318 attack percentage, her 10th straight match in double-digits and sixth time hitting .300 or better this fall.
  • Dlouha registered eight kills on 11 errorless swings for a season-high .727 attack percentage. Dlouha tacked on two blocks to add to her America East-best 1.42 blocks per set.
  • Lottie Scully recorded a season-high 38 assists in the win. 
  • Dimitrova added nine kills for the Bearcats at .500, her third time hitting .500 or better this year.
