Women’s Tennis Concludes Bill & Sandra Moore Invitational

Gonzalez highlights action, advances to Flight E Singles final

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (BinghamtonBearcats.com) - The Binghamton women's tennis team concluded competition at Navy's Bill & Sandra Moore Invitational, Sunday afternoon at the Fluegel-Moore Tennis Stadium. 

SINGLES
Valeria Gonzalez highlighted action for the Bearcats with a Flight E Singles final appearance. Gonzalez picked up wins 6-2, 2-6, 11-9 over FDU's Anais Jenkins and St. Bonaventure's Kelly Barnes 6-4, 6-1, in the first and quarterfinal rounds, respectively. The sophomore registered a walkover in the semifinals due to opponent injury and ultimately fell to Navy's Peyton Amspacher-Philemon 6-7 (2), 3-6, in the final. 

Clara Arbeloa Lopez advanced to the Flight D Singles semifinals after she took down Mary Washington's Olivia Geoghegan 6-1, 6-2 in the first round. She earned another win over FDU's Kostsina Katsiaryna, 6-3, 6-1, before falling to Navy's Mackenzie Lee, 6-2, 7-5, in the semifinals. 

Caterina Casadei fell in her first round match but made it to the Flight B Singles consolation semifinal after she beat Monmouth's Lana Brezanin 3-6, 6-4, 10-7. 

Natalia Aruj, Kayla CastellanoJulia Pedraza PalaciosMaria Pereira and Nitya Vyas all competed in their respective singles flights but fell in their first round matches. 

DOUBLES
Casadei and Arbeloa Lopez dropped their first round match 6-3 in Flight B Doubles but earned a hard-fought, 7-5 win over FDU's Valentina Silva and Yelena Kim in the consolation quarterfinals. 

Aruj and Pereira received a bye in the Flight A Doubles first round and dropped their quarterfinal match 4-6 to a Johns Hopkins doubles pairing. 

Gonzalez and Pedraza Palacios also played in the Flight C Doubles but lost their first round match, 6-2. 

UP NEXT 
Binghamton will head to the North Country for the St. Lawrence Invitational, Sept. 12. Match time is slated for 11 a.m.
