Wrestling to Go Up Against Harvard, Brown on Saturday

| By:

Bearcats will wrestle Ivy League programs after splitting duals in Pennsylvania the prior week

VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton wrestling team continues its dual season on Saturday with matches at both Harvard and Brown.

The Bearcats last competed in a pair of duals in Pennsylvania on Saturday, Jan. 18. Binghamton first defeated Franklin & Marshall 36-4 before falling to Drexel 23-10. Carter Baer, Cory Day and Ivan Garcia each went 2-0 that day. Day recorded his ninth pin of the season against Franklin & Marshall's Brody Kline, putting him in a tie for the fourth most falls among Division I wrestlers in the country.

Baer and Day both remain nationally ranked, along with Brevin Cassella and Will Ebert. Cassella (No. 8 FloWrestling/13 InterMat), Day (No. 16/16) and Ebert (No. 29/26) are still in both the FloWrestling and InterMat polls, while Baer is ranked No. 33 in the FloWrestling poll. The Bearcats also ranked at No. 15 in the latest NWCA Division I Men's Mid-Major Coaches Poll that was released on Wednesday.

All four of those wrestlers also made the cut for the NCAA's first coaches' rankings of the season, which were announced on Thursday. Joining that group of Bearcats are also Carson Wagner and Ivan Garcia. The rankings are determined by a vote of 16 coaches in each weight class with two head coaches from each of the eight conferences. Each wrestler must be designated a starter and have wrestled at least eight Division I matches in the weight class with at least one within the last 30 days. The coaches' rankings are one of several criteria that the NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee will use to evaluate during the at-large selection and seeding process. The committee will also look at head-to-head competition, quality wins, Ratings Percentage Index (RPI), conference tournament placement, results versus common opponents and win percentage.

The coaches' rankings for Binghamton wrestlers are as follows:
Binghamton previously wrestled Brown and Harvard on the same day back Jan. 27, 2024 at the Events Center when both the Bears and Crimson were members of the EIWA. The Bearcats swept both duals, defeating Harvard 28-9 and Brown 24-9. Now Binghamton will face both programs for the first time since they left the EIWA to join the Ivy League's newly formed postseason wrestling tournament.
