Binghamton wrestler goes 4-2 in freestyle tournament

GENEVA, Ohio – Nate Lucier of the Binghamton wrestling team completed his run at U23 Nationals Sunday at SPIRE Academy.

Lucier, who competed on behalf of the Bearcat Wrestling Club, reached the quarterfinals on Saturday after winning all four of his matches in the freestyle tournament at 70 kg. On Sunday, Lucier, the No. 41 seed in his bracket, faced the top seed in Jordan Williams with a trip to the semifinals on the line. Lucier picked up the first takedown in the opening period to move ahead 2-0. However, Williams tied the bout with a two-point takedown later in the first period. The bout remained tied heading into the second period until Williams took the lead by gaining a point after taking Lucier down. While Lucier went toe-to-toe with Williams for the remainder of the bout, he was unable to retake the lead, as Williams advanced with a 3-2 decision.

Lucier still had an opportunity to reach the podium if he defeated Connor Pierce in the consolation quarterfinals. However, Pierce eliminated Lucier with an 11-0 technical fall. The loss ended Lucier's hopes of becoming the second Binghamton wrestler in as many years to reach the podium at U23 Nationals after Carson Wagner finished sixth in 2025 at 57 kg.
