GENEVA, Ohio – For the second year in a row, the Binghamton wrestling team has one of its members in the quarterfinals of U23 Nationals, as Nate Lucier won all four of his matches in the freestyle tournament Saturday at SPIRE Academy.
 
Lucier, who went 4-2 with one major decision and one technical fall with Binghamton in 2025-26 before having his season cut short due to injury, took the mat on Saturday representing the Bearcat Wrestling Club. The Coatesville, Pa., native won each of his first two bouts as the No. 41 seed at 70 kg., via a 10-0 technical fall against Paul Sanchez and Griffin Lundeen. After defeating Matthew Sarbo in a 6-3 decision, Lucier then went up against No. 8 Sergio Lemley of Michigan with a trip to the quarterfinals on the line. Lucier got the opening point in the first period to go ahead 1-0. Lemley tied the bout in the second period with a takedown of his own, but his coaches challenged the sequence, arguing Lemley should have received more points. As a result of the call being upheld, Lucier was granted a point due to the unsuccessful challenge. Lucier then defended his lead for the final 1:58 to win the bout and advance to the quarterfinals.
 
In his last appearance at this event, Lucier reached the final day of U23 Nationals in 2024, going 6-2 in the tournament to reach the consolation round of 8.
 
Of the 18 Binghamton wrestlers competing on behalf of the Bearcat Wrestling Club in the freestyle competition, 17 won at least one match, with 14 winning at least two. Carter Baer, coming off qualifying for the 2026 NCAA Men's Wrestling Championship, picked up four wins at 79 kg., before being eliminated. Among his victories was a 4-2 decision in his opening bout against 2026 national qualifier Holden Garcia of Princeton.
 
Carson Wagner, who finished sixth at U23 Nationals in 2025 at 57 kg., won three bouts at 61 kg., on Saturday.
 
Will Ebert was victorious in four bouts at 86 kg., recording two technical falls and one pin during his run at the tournament.
