VESTAL, N.Y. – For the second time this season,
Will Ebert has been named Wrestler of the Week by the EIWA after posting a victory against a top 10 opponent. The conference announced the honor Tuesday.
At Journeymen's Armbar on Sunday, Binghamton wrestled in a tripleheader against Maryland, Lock Haven and Columbia. In the Bearcats' first dual against the Terrapins, Ebert went up against No. 9 Jaxon Smith. In a close battle against the two-time national qualifier, Ebert once again rose to the occasion and secured a 4-3 decision. Ebert's victory helped Binghamton ultimately defeat Maryland 28-10. It was the second time in as many seasons that the Bearcats won a dual against a Big Ten opponent. Binghamton previously won at Northwestern 21-15 on Feb. 16, 2024.
Back at Journeymen's WrangleMania on Nov. 9, Ebert made noise by defeating No. 5 Edmond Ruth of Illinois 2-0. The Fairfield, Conn., native would go on to win his first eight matches this season and enter the national rankings. In the latest rankings, Ebert is ranked No. 23 in the InterMat poll and No. 24 in the FloWrestling poll.
Ebert would go on to wrestle one more match on Sunday, shutting out Lock Haven's Chase Bartram in a 1-0 decision. With his two wins that day, Ebert improved his overall record on the season to 12-6.
This is the third instance that a Binghamton wrestler has been named Wrestler of the Week by the EIWA. Aside from Ebert's recognition,
Brevin Cassella also received the honor on Dec. 10 after he finished in fifth place at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Collegiate Wrestling Invitational.
Binghamton will hold its first two home duals this week. The Bearcats first host Hofstra on Thursday at 2 p.m., followed by a match against No. 20 Lehigh on Saturday at 5:30 p.m., in the Events Center.
