LAS VEGAS – Dillon Arrick, Quinn Funk and Jacob Hanlon of the Binghamton wrestling team each won a match during the U20 Freestyle tournament at the U.S. Open Championships Saturday at The Expo at World Market Center Las Vegas. Hanlon also won one match during the U20 Greco-Roman competition on April 23. Each wrestler competed on behalf of the Bearcat Wrestling Club.
 
Funk received a bye into the Round of 32 of the 92 kg., bracket, where he first faced Mason Higley. After being taken down and facing a 2-0 deficit early, Funk bounced back by scoring 12 straight points to win in a 12-2 technical fall in 4:26 to advance to the Round of 16. Funk then went up against Tanner Hodgins. Hodgins led Funk 4-0 after the first period, before extending his lead to 9-0 with 39 seconds remaining. With time winding down, Funk would pick up six points in the final 12 seconds of the bout. But it was not enough, as Hodgins knocked Funk down to the consolation bracket with a 9-6 decision. Funk was then ultimately eliminated after he was pinned in his next match by Samuel Watkins.
 
Arrick began his run in the 61 kg., bracket with a 7-0 loss to Vincent Paino. In his next match, Arrick went up 8-0 against Gabe Hardin before pinning him to secure the victory. But Arrick would ultimately be eliminated in his next match by Marlo Clark 7-5.
 
Hanlon, who wrestled the freestyle tournament at 65 kg., bounced back from a 19-6 loss to Emmett Nelson in the freestyle tournament by defeating Spencer Wright 10-6. But Hanlon would then be eliminated by Tate Hisey 4-2.
 
In the U20 Greco-Roman tournament, Hanlon competed at 67 kg. His first appearance on the mat for the weekend concluded with him shutting out Mitchell Murphy in an 8-0 technical fall in 1:58. However, Hanlon was then defeated by Joshua Requena 9-0. Isaac Gonzalez would then eliminate Hanlon with a 14-10 decision.
