Freshman receives honor for third time this season after helping Binghamton volleyball team win two matches this past week

VESTAL, N.Y. – For the third time this season, Maya Coblentz-Brown has been named the America East Conference's Rookie of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

This comes after the freshman right side hitter helped the Binghamton volleyball team win two of its three matches this past week at the Events Center. In those three matches, Coblentz-Brown posted 36 kills, seven total blocks and two digs.

Coblentz-Brown began her week with four kills and two total blocks against Colgate on Sept. 30. She then followed that with 12 kills and two total blocks in Binghamton's 3-1 win over UMBC on Oct. 3. To close out her week, Coblentz-Brown recorded 20 kills while hitting a career-best .409, along with two digs and three total blocks to help the Bearcats defeat NJIT 3-2 on Oct. 5. That was the second time this season that she posted at least 20 kills in a match after she put up 21 against Army on Sept. 7.

Coblentz-Brown is the second Bearcat to be named America East Rookie of the Week on at least three occasions during a season, joining Giulia Bonifacio, who received the honor seven times in 2022. The other two instances Coblentz-Brown was named Rookie of the Week this season came on Sept. 9 and 16.

Binghamton continues America East play at 1 p.m., on Sunday at Bryant.
