Bearcats travel to Cleveland State for Mid-Season Meet

VESTAL, N.Y. - After a successful fall schedule of meets, the Binghamton swimming & diving teams head to Cleveland State for the Magnus Cup. It marks the Bearcats' annual mid-season invitational and runs Thursday-Saturday.

There are six men's teams and nine women's programs taking part in the Magnus Cup. In addition to the Bearcats and host Vikings, John Carroll, Le Moyne, St. Bonaventure and Xavier have both men's and women's squads competing this weekend. In addition, Akron, Bowling Green and Northern Colorado are sending women's teams to the meet.

Each day, the preliminaries start at 9 a.m. followed by the finals at 6 p.m. The diving events will take place Thursday and Friday.

On the men's side, Binghamton has gone a perfect 5-0 in dual meets so far this season. The Bearcat women, meanwhile, are currently 4-2.

Binghamton has already had an impressive season in the diving events. Senior Elizabeth Tirado, junior Dylan Norby and sophomore Jacob Koclanis have each met the qualifying standard for the NCAA Zone Meet.

The most significant accomplishments, however, have been those of freshman Julia Iwanow. She has been named the America East Rookie of the Week a conference-best six times this season. In addition, she broke the Binghamton program record in the 200 breast that was set by 2024 America East champion Lauren Kuzma. Iwanow's time of 2:14.07 at the Bucknell Invitational on Oct. 25 shaved over a second off of Kuzma's mark of 2:15.38.

Iwanow has posted the top women's times in the America East this season in both the 100 breast (1:02.53) and 200 breast (2:14.07) while sophomore Eva Smith has turned in the fastest 100 back performance (56.34). Smith transferred to Binghamton from Cleveland State this past summer.

A pair of Bearcat men have also earned weekly honors from the America East this season. They include sophomore Evan Peters - who was named the Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 21 - and freshman Isaih Francis - who swept the weekly Swimming and Rookie of the Week honors on Nov. 4.

Peters has posted the top men's times in the America East this season in the 200 free (1:38.85), 500 free (4:31.55), 200 back (1:49.55) and 400 IM (4:00.11).

The Magnus Cup marks the Bearcats' final competition of the fall semester.
