Libero recorded team-high 23 digs in volleyball team's semifinal match against UMBC

BALTIMORE – Senior libero/defensive specialist Emily Cronkhite of the Binghamton volleyball team has been selected to the America East All-Tournament Team, the conference announced Saturday.

Cronkhite, one of Binghamton's team captains, led the Bearcats with 23 digs to go along with three assists and two service aces in their match against No. 1 seed UMBC in the semifinals of the America East Volleyball Championship on Friday. The senior's efforts helped the Bearcats push the top-seeded Retrievers to five sets, before Binghamton was defeated.

This honor comes at the end of what was a career season for the native of Metamora, Ill. Cronkhite finished the season with a career-high 401 digs, which led the Bearcats. Cronkhite entered the America East Volleyball Championship leading the league in digs per set against conference opponents at 4.85. With her 23 digs on Friday, Cronkhite ended her season recording at least 22 digs in four of her final five matches of the season. Additionally, Cronkhite was also named Defensive Player of the Week by the America East twice throughout the season (Oct. 21 and Nov. 17).

This marks the 12th America East All-Tournament Team selection Binghamton has had. The last selection the Bearcats had was Tsvetelina Ilieva in 2024. It was one of two selections three-time All-American had in as many years. Her two selections are tied with Megan Hoag (2004, 06) for the most selections in program history.

Friday's loss ended a season in which Binghamton, despite having a roster where 11 of its 18 players were newcomers, still reached the conference tournament for the fourth year in a row. It was the first time the Bearcats reached the conference tournament in four consecutive seasons since 2014-17. Both Viktoria Dimitrova and Merima Smajlovic also received First Team All-Conference honors from the America East. Since Binghamton had three players earn First Team All-Conference honors in 2024 (Misa Dlouha, Tsvetelina Ilieva and Lottie Scully), it was the first time the Bearcats had multiple players make the First Team in back-to-back seasons since 2005 (2) and 2006 (3).
