Swimming & Diving Earns Three AE Weekly Honors

Peters, Pikofsky-Christiansen and Iwanow excelled at recent invite

VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton swimming & diving program wrapped up its fall semester season with three weekly accolades from the America East Conference. Sophomore Evan Peters was named the Men's Swimmer of the Week while freshman Samuel Pikofsky-Christiansen earned the Men's Diver of the Week honor. Freshman Julia Iwanow, meanwhile, picked up her seventh Women's Rookie of the Year accolade.

At the Cleveland State/Magnus Cup this past weekend, Peters broke the meet record in the men's 200 free and was also part of the first-place 800 free relay team. His 200 free time of 1:37.86 eclipsed the 2021 meet record of 1:36.78, which was set by Andrew Martin of Xavier. Peters was also second in the 200 back (1:48.05) and third in the 500 free (4:29.32) this past weekend.

Peters' times in the 200 free, 200 back and 500 free which he recorded this weekend each represent the top performances in the America East this year. In addition, the 800 free relay time - which includes Peters - also posted the top conference time so far this season.

This marks the second America East Swimmer of the Week honor for Peters this season, having also been chosen back on Oct. 21.

At the same meet, Pikofsky-Christiansen was the runner up in both the one-meter diving event (303.00) and three-meter competition (308.00). In the process, he met the NCAA Zone Standard in the one-meter event (300).

Including Pikofsky-Christiansen, Binghamton has now posted four NCAA Zone Diving qualifiers so far this season. He joins sophomore Jacob Koclanis, junior Dylan Norby and senior Elizabeth Tirado.

This marks the first career weekly honor for Pikofsky-Christiansen.

Iwanow, meanwhile, continued her stellar season at the Magnus Cup with a runner-up finish in the 200 breast (2:13.53). In the process, she broke her own school and freshman records of 2:14.07, which she set earlier this season.

Iwanow's 200 breast time currently ranks first in the America East this season. In addition, she placed seventh in the 50 breast at Cleveland State with a time of 29.33. It currently ranks second in the conference.

Binghamton resumes its dual meet schedule on Jan. 24 at Marist.
