VESTAL, N.Y. - The America East Food Frenzy (#AEFoodFrenzy) initiative is an America East conference-wide community service initiative organized by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) at each of the 9-member institutions. Each school affiliated with America East takes part in the competition by collecting as many canned food and pantry items as possible. Now celebrating its 10th year of impactful service, the America East Food Frenzy benefits those in need and who suffer from food insecurity throughout the conference footprint. Over 150,000 items have been donated to local food banks and organizations since the campaign began — including 20,000+ last year alone. The initiative not only raises awareness about food scarcity but also empowers student-athletes to lead meaningful change in their own communities.
This fall, the Binghamton University Division of Athletics donated over 600 non-perishable items to the Binghamton University Food Pantry on campus. Leading the efforts was Binghamton's SAAC.
The Binghamton University Food Pantry is a member of the Food Bank of the Southern Tier and CHOW (Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse). They are a temporary, judgment-free place for students facing hard times, such as running short of money for the month or other emergency situations.
"Food Frenzy meant a lot to me because it highlighted how generosity multiplies when people work together." said
Ramsey Tilgner, Men's Soccer Student-Athlete and SAAC E-Board member. "Reaching a large number of donations showed just how committed our student-athletes are to serving others."
An America East SAAC initiative, the #AEFoodFrenzy began in 2015 as a conference-wide community service initiative designed to promote unity among America East's member institutions while also making significant donations to several charities in campus communities. AE SAAC representatives took the lead in executing this initiative through their campus SAACs and encouraged their campus SAAC members, fellow student-athletes, and athletic teams to donate and used their social media accounts to share content throughout the #AEFoodFrenzy initiative. This year food frenzy was held October 12 to December 2, 2025.
