Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Adopts a Family for Christmas

VESTAL, N.Y. -- For years, Binghamton's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has taken part in the Adopt-A-Family for Christmas program.  During November, SAAC members collected Christmas gifts from their teammates for a local family.

Several national organizations sponsor the Adopt-A-Family for Christmas program.  In the case of Binghamton's SAAC leaders who organized the event, they worked with the Family Enrichment Network of Greater Binghamton (FEN).

Each year, FEN matches deserving families enrolled in their programming with local donors who "adopt" the children for the holidays.  From there, Binghamton's SAAC was paired off with a family in need.  They were provided with a wish list of needs, sizes, and interests of their adopted family.  And the rest was up to them to fulfill these needs.

"This has become a cherished annual tradition that student-athletes always get excited about." said Erin Moore, Associate Athletic Director.  "It means a lot to see the generosity, donations, and support they give during the holiday season. Their genuine care for the greater Binghamton community makes this time of year truly magical."

SAAC is a student-run organization that seeks to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunities, protecting student-athlete welfare and fostering a positive student-athlete image. They also organize and participate in a variety of community service activities and provide leadership experiences to further student-athlete personal development.
