Softball blanks Providence 4-0

Roberts records second straight shutout, Santos has four hits

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Junior pitcher Brianna Roberts fired a six-hit shutout and graduate student outfielder Brianna Santos finished with a career-high four hits as Binghamton (5-5) defeated Providence (0-9) in its final game at the Florida/Bubly Invitational on Sunday morning at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium. With the victory, the Bearcats finish the weekend 2-3 in a tournament which featured a pair of nationally-ranked teams as well as three squads that compete in major conferences.

Roberts finished the weekend with a pair of complete-game shutout victories, having also defeated the Friars 3-0 on Friday. She is now 3-1 on the season with a 1.16 ERA.

Santos, meanwhile, went 4-for-5 on Sunday. It marked the first four-hit performance by a Binghamton player since Roberts pounded out four hits against Lehigh back on March 22, 2024. Santos also finished the weekend 7-for-16 (.438), scored twice and drove in a pair of runs.

Against Providence on Sunday, the Bearcats gave Roberts all the run support she'd need when they scored three times in the top of the second inning. Junior outfielder Bella Farina clubbed a solo home run while graduate student outfielder Lindsey Walter and junior first baseman Emma Lawson followed with RBI singles. Santos scored Binghamton's second run of the frame on Walter's hit.

Senior third baseman Sarah Rende doubled home the Bearcats' final run in the top of the sixth inning. She finished the game 1-for-3 and also drew a pair of walks for a .600 on-base percentage.

Walter finished the game with a pair of runs scored.

Taking the loss for the Friars was Alyssa Twomey in her first decision of the season.

Binghamton heads to the Make It Happen Games in Madeira Beach, Fla. Feb. 28-March 2.
