RIVERDALE, N.Y. (binghamtonbearcats.com) - Binghamton Women's Lacrosse (2-5) heads south to face Manhattan (1-4), Wednesday, March 12. First draw is slated for 3 p.m. at Gaelic Park and on Jasper Sports Network.
LAST TIME OUT
Binghamton fell short in double overtime to Brown, 13-12, March 9, at the Bearcats Sports Complex. Brown netted back-to-back goals to open up first quarter action before Binghamton recorded three consecutive scores from Emma Blloshmi and
Carla Curth to grab a 3-2 lead. The Bears found the back of the net once more to end the first frame tied at three.
Brown registered two goals to start the second quarter to retake a 5-3 advantage. The Bearcats put up another 3-0 run next, on scores from Olivia Muscolino,
Mia Forte and Blloshmi, to lead by one with 8:09 remaining. Brown posted the equalizer to level the contest once again until
Jess Robinson scored with one second left in the half to lead 7-6.
Binghamton continued its momentum in the third quarter, shutting out Brown's offense and notching its third, 3-0 run of the afternoon to own a 10-6 edge. The Bears scored once more in the fourth frame before Muscolino completed her hat trick to bring the Bearcats' edge to four.
Brown rallied for five goals in the next six minutes to take a 12-11 lead with 2:47 minutes remaining in regulation. Curth tallied her second goal of the afternoon with 18 seconds left to send the game into overtime tied at 12. After the first overtime period went scoreless, the Bears netted the game-winning goal off a free position attempt with three seconds left in double overtime to win, 13-12.
GAME NOTES vs. BROWN
- Emma Blloshmi posted her third consecutive six-point game against Brown with five goals and one assist. The junior has recorded a hat trick or better in all seven of Binghamton's games this spring. Blloshmi's 4.29 goals per game ranks eighth nationally.
- Blloshmi converted on all five of her free position attempts vs the Bears. Sixteen of the attackers' 30 goals this season came from the eight-meter line. Blloshmi sits second in the country with 2.29 free position goals per game.
- Olivia Muscolino registered her second hat trick of the season with three goals and one assist vs. Brown. The performance is the 25th of her Bearcat career with three or more scores.
- Carla Curth notched her second consecutive three-point game with two goals and one assist against the Bears.
- Maryn Savage recorded a career-best three caused turnovers to lead the Bearcats. She also collected a team-best three ground balls.
- Sofia Salgado made her first appearance in goal for Binghamton this spring with nine saves vs. Brown.
HERE COMES EMMA B
Emma Blloshmi has scored three or more goals in every game for Binghamton this spring. She posted six points in each of the Bearcats' last three games vs. Marist, March 1, Campbell, March 5, and Brown, March 9.
The junior opened the season with a hat trick at Villanova, Feb. 8, then produced back-to-back five point, four goal contests against Colgate, Feb. 12, and Siena, Feb. 15. Blloshmi recorded another hat trick at St. Bonaventure, Feb. 25, before she notched a career-high six goals at Marist, March 1.
Blloshmi's 2.29 goals per game ranks second nationally behind No. 3 Northwestern's Madison Taylor with 2.47. Her 4.29 goals per game is eighth in the country.
The attacker picked up her first career America East Offensive Player of the Week honor, Feb. 17. The nod was a career-first for Blloshmi who was selected as America East Rookie of the Week twice in 2024.
With four goals in Binghamton's 12-11 America East Championship win over UAlbany, May 3, 2024, and one in the team's first-ever NCAA appearance at Yale, May 10, 2024, Blloshmi has scored in the Bearcats last nine contests.
ALL HAIL ANGE
Angelina Suau was named America East Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon, March 3.
Suau collected nine ground balls and seven caused turnovers in two games for Binghamton last week. She collected a career-high seven ground balls and matched her personal best with six caused turnovers against St. Bonaventure, Feb. 25.
The honor is the third career honor for the senior after she was named Defensive Player of the Week twice in 2023.
MUSCOLINO MAKES HISTORY
Olivia Muscolino became Binghamton all-time points (177) and goals (129) leader in the Bearcats first four games this season.
The senior rose to first-place in Binghamton program history with 125 career goals after she scored twice against St. Bonaventure, Feb. 25, passing Rebecca Golderman's (2016-19) previous mark of 124. Muscolino became the Bearcats' all-time points leader just 13 days earlier with two goals and two assists against Colgate, Feb. 12, breaking Ali Castiglie's (2008-11) previous total of 160.
Muscolino set a Bearcat single-season record last spring with 72 points, 52 goals and 120 shots.
WELCOME BACK BEARCATS
Sofia Salgado made her first appearance in goal for Binghamton this spring with nine saves vs. Brown, March 9. The 2024 America East Championships' Most Outstanding Player, Salgado missed the Bearcats first six games due to a preseason injury.
Marisa Tancredi scored her first goal in 668 days for the Bearcats against Campbell, March 5, after she was sidelined with an injury before the 2024 season. The senior found the back of the net off an assist from Olivia Muscolino in the third quarter.
SERIES vs. MANHATTAN
Binghamton and Manhattan will meet for the first time in program history this weekend. The Bearcats are 34-51 all-time against current Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponents. Binghamton picked up both its wins this season on the road against MAAC teams, 8-7 vs. Marist, March 1, and 8-6 over Siena, Feb. 15.
Manhattan owns a 1-4 record to begin 2025. The Jaspers dropped games to UMass Lowell, 13-5, and Hofstra, 18-5, before recording their first win at FDU, 5-2, Feb. 19. Manhattan then fell to No. 24 UConn, 19-2, and LIU, 10-9.
