Women’s Lacrosse Heads to Cornell Tuesday

Bearcats close out nonconference action against the Big Red

ITHACA, N.Y. (binghamtonbearcats.com) - Binghamton Women's Lacrosse (3-5) closes out nonconference action on the road against Cornell (5-2, 1-0), Tuesday afternoon. First draw is slated for 5 p.m. at Schoellkopf Field and on ESPN+. 

LAST TIME OUT
Binghamton earned a dominant victory over Manhattan, 19-4, Wednesday, March 12, at Gaelic Park in the Bronx, N.Y. The Bearcats opened up the first quarter on a 4-0 run started by senior defender Angelina Suau's first career goal off a midfield ground ball pickup. Manhattan found the back of the net once before Binghamton ended the frame with three consecutive scores to lead, 7-1. 

Emma Blloshmi and Jess Robinson tacked on their second goals of the game to start the second quarter up 9-1 for the Bearcats. The Jaspers registered their second of the day to cut Binghamton's advantage to seven. Brooke Bort responded with her first career goal to begin a 6-0 run for the Bearcats spanning into the third quarter. 

Manhattan put up its first score of the half with 1:59 remaining in the third frame before Carla Curth converted on an assist from Robinson to extend the team's lead, 16-3. Bearcats' netted three in the fourth quarter, including a career first from Addie Lowery, compared to the Jaspers one to claim a 19-4 victory.

GAME NOTES vs. MANHATTAN 
  • Ten Bearcats registered a season-high 28 points, 19 goals and nine assists against Manhattan. Binghamton also posted a season-best 13 caused turnovers and 33 shots. 
  • Olivia Muscolino led the Bearcats with a season-high seven points on three goals and four assists. The performance is her second consecutive and 26th career hat trick. 
  • Emma Blloshmi recorded her eighth hat trick in eight games with four goals vs. Manhattan. The performance is her fourth straight with four or more goals. Blloshmi converted on both her free position attempts to rank second nationally with 2.25 free position goals per game. 
  • Carla Curth matched her career-high with four goals against the Jaspers. She tacked on two assists for a season-best six points. Jess Robinson also equalled her career-best with four points on two goals and two assists. 
  • Three Bearcats registered their first career goals against Manhattan. Senior defender Angelina Suau opened up game scoring by scooping up a midfield ground ball off a Jasper turnover to find the back of the net for the first time. Freshman Brooke Bort and sophomore Addie Lowery also collected their first career scores this afternoon. 
  • Mia Forte tacked on her first pair of goals this season in today's victory. The midfielder scored for the first time this spring against Brown, March 9. 
  • Seven Bearcats registered 13 caused turnovers against Manhattan with Angelina Suau, Gaby Castillo and Gretel Cassell earning three apiece. 

HERE COMES EMMA B 
With four goals against the Manhattan, Emma Blloshmi has scored three or more goals in every game for Binghamton this spring.

The junior opened the season with a hat trick at Villanova, Feb. 8, then produced back-to-back five point, four goal contests against Colgate, Feb. 12, and Siena, Feb. 15. Blloshmi recorded another hat trick at St. Bonaventure, Feb. 25, before she posted six points in straight three games vs. Marist, March 1, Campbell, March 5, and Brown, March 9. 

Blloshmi's 2.25 free position goals per game ranks second nationally behind No. 3 Northwestern's Madison Taylor with 2.62. Blloshmi's 34 total goals sits eighth in the country while her 4.25 goals per game is ninth. 

The attacker picked up her first career America East Offensive Player of the Week honor, Feb. 17. The nod was a career-first for Blloshmi who was selected as America East Rookie of the Week twice in 2024.

With four goals in Binghamton's 12-11 America East Championship win over UAlbany, May 3, 2024, and one in the team's first-ever NCAA appearance at Yale, May 10, 2024, Blloshmi has scored in the Bearcats last 10 contests.  

MUSCOLINO MAKING HISTORY
Olivia Muscolino became Binghamton all-time points (184) and goals (132) leader in the Bearcats first four games this season. 

The senior rose to first-place in Binghamton program history after she scored twice against St. Bonaventure, Feb. 25, passing Rebecca Golderman's (2016-19) previous mark of 124. Muscolino became the Bearcats' all-time points leader just 13 days earlier with two goals and two assists against Colgate, Feb. 12, breaking Ali Castiglie's (2008-11) previous total of 160. 

Muscolino set a Bearcat single-season record last spring with 72 points, 52 goals and 120 shots.  

ALL HAIL ANGE
Angelina Suau was named America East Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon, March 3. 

Suau collected nine ground balls and seven caused turnovers in two games for Binghamton last week. She collected a career-high seven ground balls and matched her personal best with six caused turnovers against St. Bonaventure, Feb. 25. 

The honor is the third career nod for the senior after she was named Defensive Player of the Week twice in 2023. 

FIRST TIMERS
Three Bearcats registered their first career goals against Manhattan, March 12.  

In her 50th collegiate game, senior defender Angelina Suau scooped up a midfield ground ball on a Jasper turnover, going coast to coast to find the back of the net for the first time. 

Freshman Brooke Bort and sophomore Addie Lowery also collected their first career scores vs. Manhattan. Bort notched her goal on a free-position attempt in the second quarter while Lowery converted on an assist from Olivia Muscolino with 3:46 left to play. 

WELCOME BACK BEARCATS
Sofia Salgado made her first appearance in goal for Binghamton this spring with nine saves vs. Brown, March 9. The 2024 America East Championships' Most Outstanding Player, Salgado missed the Bearcats first six games due to a preseason injury. 

Marisa Tancredi scored her first goal in 668 days for the Bearcats against Campbell, March 5, after she was sidelined with an injury before the 2024 season. The senior found the back of the net off an assist from Olivia Muscolino in the third quarter.

SERIES vs. CORNELL
Cornell owns a 10-1 series lead over Binghamton. The Bearcats dropped their last matchup with the Big Red, 15-7, March 12, 2024, at home. Binghamton earned a 13-12 victory in its last appearance at Cornell's Schoellkopf Field, March 15, 2023. 

The Bearcats are 2-15 all-time against Ivy League opponents. Binghamton fell to Brown, 13-12, in double overtime just nine days ago at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The Bearcats first win against an Ivy League foe came at home against Columbia, 12-11, April 20, 2011. 

Cornell sports a 5-2, 1-0 record to begin the season. The Big Red's sole losses this spring have come at the hands of ranked opponents, 18-10, to No. 4 Syracuse, Feb. 18, and 11-7, vs. No. 7 Stanford, March 9.
