VESTAL, N.Y. - Two former Binghamton baseball standouts are ready to take the field for their respective professional teams this spring.
Ben Anderson and
Nick Roselli have broken spring training and will report to their teams to begin the 2025 season. Anderson is in the Texas Rangers' minor league system and will begin at Double-A
Frisco (Texas). Roselli, drafted by the New York Mets last spring, will begin at High-A
Brooklyn.
Anderson was taken by the Texas Rangers in the 13th round of the 2019 MLB Amateur Draft and begins his sixth professional season. Last spring, he posted a 3.48 ERA in 22 appearances for Frisco. Anderson struck out 93 hitters in 106 innings (7.9/game) for the RoughRiders, who compete in the Texas League. Their season opener is April 4. He led the 2024 team in starts (20) and notched six wins. On the radar for Anderson would be a call-up to the Rangers' Triple-A affiliate, Round Rock (Texas), where he made one relief appearance in 2024. In five pro seasons, Anderson has pitched in 65 games (39 starts) and has 14 wins and a 3.69 ERA.Â
In his last season as a Bearcat in 2019, Anderson was named America East Pitcher of the Year after producing the highest strikeouts per nine innings in the 30-year conference history (11.05). He went 9-4 with 108 strikeouts and a 2.76 ERA in 88 innings and he broke school records for wins and strikeouts. Anderson ranked fourth in the nation in complete games (4), 28
th in victories and 41
st in strikeouts. In his final outing as a Bearcat, Anderson delivered a masterful nine-inning complete game as BU beat Hartford 2-1 in its opening round of the America East tournament at the Bearcats Baseball Complex.
Roselli was taken in the 11th round last June - the first Binghamton second baseman to ever be drafted and is the school's highest position player taken in 34 years. He played 18 games with the St. Lucie Mets in the Single-A Florida State League. He begins his first full pro season in Brooklyn, not far away from his Levittown, Long Island roots. The Cyclones compete in the South Atlantic League and begin their season April 4.Â
Roselli hit .349 in three seasons with the Bearcats, including a sizzling .388 mark last spring. In his three-year Binghamton career, Roselli accumulated 153 hits and 104 RBI in 115 starts. Nearly 40 percent of those hits were for extra-bases, including 26 home runs. He elevated his offensive numbers every year, and ranks among Binghamton's all-time top-10 in average (3
rd), home runs (4
th), on-base percentage (2
nd, .442) and slugging (2
nd, .608). In his junior season this spring, Roselli shook off an early-season injury and earned America East all-conference accolades after hitting .391 in conference play. His on-base percentage hovered near .500 and half of his hits were for extra-bases.
