Softball Cracks D1Softball Mid-Major Poll

Bearcats ranked No. 25 in first-ever appearance

VESTAL, N.Y. - For the first time in program history, the Binghamton softball team (10-5) is ranked in the D1Softball.com Top-25 Mid-Major Poll. The Bearcats check in at No. 25 this week.

The D1Softball.com Top 25 Mid-Major Poll is now in its second season. Out of the 309 NCAA Division 1 softball programs, every team outside of the Power 4 Conferences (ACC, Big 10, SEC and Big-12) is eligible to be included in the mid-major rankings. The Bearcats are the first team from the America East Conference ever to appear in the poll.

"Being in the Mid-Major Top 25 is a big step for our program," head coach Jess Bump said. "It's a lot of hard work over the course of the last few years and this team has been playing some good softball over the last few weeks. It's early on in the season, and we know we have to continue to climb and be playing our best softball in May, but it's an honor to be recognized and we will use it as fuel to keep our foot on the gas pedal."

Binghamton is coming off a 5-0 weekend at the Make-it-Happen Games in Madeira Beach and is riding a six-game winning streak. The Bearcats are also 7-2 in their last nine games.

In addition to the mid-major ranking, the Bearcats' current RPI is a program-best No. 68.

Pitching and defense have been two big keys to Binghamton's success. In this week's NCAA rankings, the Bearcats are No. 18 with a 1.99 ERA and No. 38 with a .973 fielding percentage.

Binghamton heads to the James Madison Invitational this coming Friday-Sunday.

NOTE: The D1Softball.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll is released each Wednesday at 9 a.m. EST.
