Women’s Lacrosse Plays Host to Campbell Wednesday

VESTAL, N.Y. (binghamtonbearcats.com) - Binghamton Women's Lacrosse (2-3) is set to host Campell (1-3), Wednesday morning at the Bearcats Sports Complex. First draw is slated for 11 a.m. 

Binghamton returns home to Vestal for two games this week after a three-game roadstand where the team picked up its first two wins of the season. Wednesday features a Bearcat lacrosse doubleheader as the men's program plays Siena at 4 p.m. 

LAST TIME OUT 
Binghamton outlasted Marist, 8-7, March 1, at Tenney Stadium in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Jess Robinson netted her first career goal off an assist from Christiana Mastrorocco to start off scoring less than a minute into the first quarter. Marist scored the equalizer two minutes later before Binghamton notched four unanswered goals, three from Emma Blloshmi, to end the frame up 5-1.

The Red Foxes found the back of the net twice in the second quarter to cut the Bearcats lead to two. Blloshmi registered her fourth goal of the afternoon with 9:54 left to then extend Binghamton's advantage to three. Marist responded with a 3-0 run to tie up the contest at six with eight minutes left in quarter three. 

Blloshmi tallied the lone goal for the Bearcats in the third frame next, retaking the lead, 7-6. The Red Foxes tied it up at seven before Blloshmi scored the game-winning goal at 7:37 in the fourth quarter, her sixth of the day. 

Maeve Sayre recorded two saves off free position shots in the final five minutes of play to seal the 8-7 victory for the Bearcats.

GAME NOTES VS MARIST 
  • Emma Blloshmi netted a career-high six goals over Marist, her fifth consecutive game with three or more goals.The junior went 3-5 from the eight-meter mark vs. Marist to bring her free position goals season total to nine for third best in the country. She also ranks third nationally with 1.8 free position goals per game. 
  • Maeve Sayre tallied a personal-best 12 saves against the Red Foxes for her second decision of the season. The sophomore held Marist to zero goals on seven free position shots. Sayre ranks third among America East goalies with a .451 saves percentage and 8.20 saves per game. 
  • Jess Robinson scored her first career goal for Binghamton to start off the first quarter. Robinson recorded nine assists in 13 previous appearances. 
  • Christiana Mastrorocco registered a goal and an assist this afternoon, her second, two-point performance of the season after equaling the total against Colgate, Feb. 12
  • Binghamton posted a season-high 21 clears on 22 attempts against Marist.
ALL HAIL ANGIE
Angelina Suau was named America East Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon. 

Suau collected nine ground balls and seven caused turnovers in two games for Binghamton last week. She collected a career-high seven ground balls and matched her personal best with six caused turnovers against St. Bonaventure, Feb. 25. 

The honor is the third career honor for the senior after she was named Defensive Player of the Week twice in 2023. The nod is also the second for the Bearcats this season as Emma Blloshmi picked up an Offensive Player of the Week distinction, Feb. 17. 

HERE COMES EMMA B
Emma Blloshmi has posted three or more goals in each of Binghamton's five games this spring. The junior opened the season with a hat trick at Villanova, Feb. 8, then produced back-to-back five point, four goal contests against Colgate, Feb. 12, and at Siena, Feb. 15. Blloshmi recorded another hat trick at St. Bonaventure, Feb. 25, before she notched a career-high six goals at Marist, March 1. 

Blloshmi's 1.8 goals per game ranks third nationally while her 4.0 goals per game is 11th

The attacker picked up her first career America East Offensive Player of the Week honor, Feb. 17. The nod was a career-first for Blloshmi who was selected as America East Rookie of the Week twice in 2024.

With four goals in Binghamton's 12-11 America East Championship win over UAlbany, May 3, 2024, and one in the team's first-ever NCAA appearance at Yale, May 10, 2024, Blloshmi has scored in the Bearcats last six contests. 

MUSCOLINO MAKES HISTORY
Olivia Muscolino rose to first-place in Binghamton program history with 125 career goals after she scored twice against St. Bonaventure, Feb. 25. The senior passed Rebecca Golderman's (2016-19) previous mark of 124. 

Muscolino became the Bearcats' all-time points leader just 13 days earlier against Colgate, Feb. 12. The attacker's 171 career points snapped Ali Castiglie's (2008-11) previous total of 160. She also set a Bearcat single-season record last spring with 72 points, 52 goals and 120 shots.  

SERIES vs. CAMPBELL
Binghamton claimed a 22-6 in its first ever meeting against Campbell, March 3, 2024, in Buies Creek, N.C. Abigail Carroll posted a career-high nine points on four goals and five assists against Campbell. Olivia Muscolino added a hat trick while Carla Curth and Mia Forte chipped in two points apiece. 

The Camels own a 1-3 record to start the season. Campbell picked up its first win over Charlotte, 14-8, Feb. 11, before registering home losses against High Point, Feb. 15, Old Dominion, Feb. 22, and Wofford, Feb. 26.
