VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton baseball (14-17, 5-7 America East) welcomes its closest geographic opponent when Cornell (10-13, 5-7 Ivy) arrives Tuesday night for the first of two upcoming games between the longtime foes with near identical overall and conference records. First pitch is 6:35 p.m. at the Bearcats Baseball Complex.
Binghamton has dropped seven of its last eight and will look to regain momentum before hosting first place NJIT this weekend in an important mid-season America East series. Binghamton is hitting .291 as a team, tops in the conference. They have a 7.00 pitching ERA (4th) and continue to lead the league in fielding with a .977 percentage.
Senior catcher
Zach Rogacki (.368) and freshman center fielder
Matt Bolton (.365) rank third and fourth, respectively, in the conference for hitting. Senior third baseman
Devan Bade leads the team and ranks fourth in the conference with 28 RBI. Bade, senior DH/C
Evin Sullivan and graduate first baseman
Freddy Forgione are tied with a team-high six home runs.Â
Senior left-hander
Caden Rothbaum (0-2, 5.40 ERA) will make his third start of the season.
Cornell has lost four straight after a stretch of winning three of four. The Big Red were swept by Penn over the weekend and lost two of three to Columbia the previous series. Cornell is hitting .272 (3rd in Ivy), has a 8.70 pitching ERA (7th) and a .976 fielding percentage (1st). Versatile senior DH/OF/pitcher Ryan Porter leads the team with a .343 average, six home runs and 19 RBI.Â
The Big Red lead the all-time series, which dates back to 1984, 26-19-1. Cornell won both games last season, 9-7 and 13-7 and has won four of the last six. Binghamton's last win in the series was a 6-0 home shutout on April 11, 2023. The teams are also scheduled to play April 29 at the Stadium. Their initial game of the three on the schedule was washed out on March 25 in Ithaca.Â
