DURHAM, N.H. (binghamtonbearcats.com) - Binghamton Women's Lacrosse (4-9, 1-3) heads to New Hampshire (2-11, 0-5), Saturday, April 19, for its final regular season road game this spring. Start time is slated for 1 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium and on ESPN+.
SERIES vs. NEW HAMPSHIRE
New Hampshire leads the all-time series over Binghamton, 18-4. The Bearcats picked up victories in the last two meetings by a 32-15 scoring margin. Binghamton dominated UNH at home, 20-8, April 13, 2024, and earned a 12-7 road-win, March 25, 2023.
The Wildcats' Ellie Thomas ranks first in the America East with 11.38 saves per game, good for fourth nationally.
LAST TIME OUT
Binghamton came up short at first-place UMass Lowell (11-2, 5-0), 14-13, April 12. Binghamton and UMass Lowell traded goals to open the contest before the River Hawks found the back of the net again to go up, 2-1. The Bearcats went on a 3-0 run via goals from Emma Blloshmi and Carla Curth to gain a 4-2 edge. UMass Lowell registered two more scores in the final five minutes to end the first quarter tied at four.
Blloshmi completed her hat trick to start off second quarter scoring and put Binghamton ahead, 5-4. UML netted the equalizer off a free position attempt less than a minute later before Curth converted on the man-up opportunity to earn a 6-5 advantage. The Riverhawks tied it up a six once again until Olivia Muscolino scored her first of the day, giving Binghamton a 7-6 edge heading into halftime.
The Bearcats jumped ahead early in the third frame on a goal from Blloshmi to lead 8-6. UMass Lowell posted two consecutive scores to level the game at nine before Blloshmi recorded her third free position goal and fifth of the afternoon to lead 9-8. The River Hawks closed out the third quarter with back-to-back scores to retake a 10-9 advantage.
Jess Robinson equalized the contest at 10 off an assist from Christiana Mastrorocco to begin the final frame until UML found the back of the net to go up by one. Mastrorocco then tied the contest for the ninth time on a free position attempt, 11-11, The River Hawks recorded a 2-0 run before Muscolino scored a goal with less than eight minutes to make it, 13-12. Both opponents tacked on one score in the final three minutes of play to solidify a 14-13 victory for UMass Lowell.
GAME NOTES vs. UMASS LOWELL
- Emma Blloshmi posted a career-high seven points on six goals and one assist against UMass Lowell. The junior recorded three scores from the eight-meter line to rank first in the nation with 2.07 free position goals per game. Her second six-goal performance and 11th hat trick this season, Blloshmi's 51 goals sit just behind Olivia Muscolino's single-season record of 52 set last year.
- Olivia Muscolino registered her seventh straight game with a goal after she scored twice vs. the River Hawks. The attacker's two-point performance brings her all-time total to 203, the only Bearcat in program history to eclipse 200 career points.
- Three Bearcats notched two points in this afternoon's contest, Carla Curth, Christiana Mastrorocco and Jess Robinson. Curth's two goals marked her third consecutive contest with at least two points while Christiana Mastrorocco and Jess Robinson put up their third and fourth two-point performances of the season, respectively, with one goal and one assist apiece.
UNSTOPPABLE FROM 8
Emma Blloshmi sits first in the NCAA Division I rankings with 2.08 free position goals per game. Blloshmi's 27 goals from the eight-meter line own the top spot in Binghamton's single-season program history behind Abigail Carroll's 19 in 2023. She is just one goal away from tying Olivia Muscolino's single-season record of 52 scores set last spring.
Blloshmi recorded a goal in every contest for Binghamton, including netting at least two goals in 11 of Binghamton's 12 games this year. The junior after she scored five times against Vermont, April 5. The junior registered a hat-trick or better in 10 contests this season, including a season-high six points in straight three games vs. Marist, March 1, Campbell, March 5, and Brown, March 9.
She ranks first in the America East with 3.92 goals per game as well as second with 4.38 points and 7.54 shots per game.
Blloshmi has scored in the Bearcats last 15 contests with four goals in Binghamton's 12-11 America East Championship win over UAlbany, May 3, 2024, and one in the team's first-ever NCAA appearance at Yale, May 10, 2024.
Blloshmi picked up her first career America East Offensive Player of the Week honor, Feb. 17. The nod was a career-first for the attacker who was selected as Rookie of the Week twice in 2024.
MUSCOLINO MAKING HISTORY
Olivia Muscolino recorded her seventh straight game with at least two goals after she found the back of the net twice at UMass Lowell, April 12. The attacker registered five or more points in three contests this spring with six hat tricks.
Muscolino eclipsed 200 career points with a second quarter goal against Vermont, April 5, making her the only Bearcat in Binghamton history to reach the milestone. The senior continues to add to her program-best 203 points and 145 goals.
Muscolino rose to first-place in Bearcat history for career goals after she scored twice against St. Bonaventure, Feb. 25, passing Rebecca Golderman's (2016-19) previous mark of 124. Muscolino became the Bearcats' all-time points leader just 13 days earlier with two goals and two assists against Colgate, Feb. 12, breaking Ali Castiglie's (2008-11) previous total of 160.
The attacker set a Bearcat single-season record last spring with 72 points, 52 goals and 120 shots.
ALL HAIL ANGE
Angelina Suau earned her second America East Defensive Player of the Week nod this season, Monday, March 31. Suau rose to first place in Binghamton program history with 81 career turnovers after she notched five against UMBC, Saturday, March 29. The senior defender surpassed Jacqueline Kennedy's (2016-18) previous mark of 77.
Suau ranks second in the America East with 2.92 ground balls per game and third with 1.83 caused turnovers per contest.
Suau matched Binghamton's single-game record with nine ground balls vs. the Retrievers, a career-best mark for the senior defender, and the third-most by any Division I player in a single game this season. Lauren Wetherell (2003-06) and Lauren Gabbamonte (2002-05) collected nine ground balls in games against UAlbany, April 29, 2005, and Niagara, April 5, 2005, respectively. Suau ranks ninth in Bearcats history with 113 career ground balls.
The honor is the fourth career nod for the senior after she was named Defensive Player of the Week, March 3, and twice in 2023.
SAVE WITH SALGADO
Sofia Salgado earned her first America East Goalie of the Week honor of the season, the league announced Monday, April 7.
Salgado recorded eight saves in Binghamton's 12-8 win over Vermont, Saturday, April 5. The graduate goalie blanked the Catamount offense in the fourth quarter, aiding a 4-0 Binghamton run that secured the Bearcats' first America East victory of the season.
The nod is the second of Salgado's Binghamton career after she was named America East Defensive Player of the Week, April 29, 2024. The distinction is also the fourth for the Bearcats this spring since Emma Blloshmi notched an offensive honor, Feb. 17, and
Angelina Suau took home two defensive awards, March 31, and March 3.
WELCOME BACK BEARCATS
Abigail Carroll found the back of the net in her first game back from injury against UMBC, March 29, marking 388 days since her last Bearcat goal at Coastal Carolina, March 6, 2024. In her second contest vs. Vermont, April 5, the senior midfielder tallied two points on one goal and one assist. Carroll ranks eighth in program history with 125 points and 96 goals in her Bearcat career.
Sofia Salgado made her first appearance in goal for Binghamton this spring with nine saves vs. Brown, March 9. The 2024 America East Championships' Most Outstanding Player, Salgado missed the Bearcats first six games due to a preseason injury.
Marisa Tancredi scored her first goal in 668 days for the Bearcats against Campbell, March 5, after she was sidelined with an injury before the 2024 season. The senior found the back of the net off an assist from
Olivia Muscolino in the third quarter.
