Zieziula takes Coach of the Year as Binghamton leads the way with five selections

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. (binghamtonbearcats.com) - Binghamton Men's Tennis collected five NEC All-Conference selections and Coach of the Year honors, the league announced Friday morning.

William Morais Binnie, Ronin Lotlikar and Filipe Costa recorded the first NEC First Team distinctions of their Bearcat careers. Morais Binnie and Lotlikar also picked up First Team honors in doubles. Kyle Weekes and James McPherson round out the All-Conference accolades with a Second Team doubles nod.

Head Coach Nick Zieziula earned his first Coach of the Year award after leading the Bearcats to back-to-back NEC titles. Binghamton defeated St. Francis, FDU and Le Moyne en route to its second consecutive championship in just its second year in the conference. Zieziula guided the Bearcats to a 13-11, 4-3 record this season in his 11th year at the helm of the program.

Morais Binnie owns a 6-4 singles record in league action this year with 18 individual wins across the fall and spring slates. He was named the NEC Championship's Most Valuable Player after winning all three singles and two doubles matches in the conference tournament. During the regular season, Morais Binnie recorded impressive singles victories from the top spot over Monmouth, Army and FDU.

Lotlikar leads Binghamton with 19 singles wins and a 7-3 NEC record this year. The junior posted regular season wins over Le Moyne, St. Francis, Stonehill, Mercyhurst and FDU. A Player of the Week honor earlier this spring, Lotlikar dominated FDU's Thomas Linley, 6-3, 6-1 in the NEC Semifinals to help the Bearcats make their second straight final appearance.

Costa followed his teammates with 17 singles wins, including five in conference play. Costa started the spring on a seven-match win streak after opening the season with a three-set victory over St. John's. The sophomore registered two dominant singles victories in the NEC Championship, including a 6-0, 6-0 performance against LIU in the finals to aid Binghamton to its second consecutive conference title.

Morais Binnie and Lotlikar earned a First Team doubles distinction with 13 overall wins as a duo and four in NEC action. The pairing won two matches in the top spot at the conference championships this year, including a 6-3 victory over LIU to help Binghamton secure the early lead in the final.

Weekes and McPherson collected the Bearcats' final All-Conference selection with a Second Team doubles nod. The duo went 7-1 in conference play with 13 overall wins in the second position. Weekes and McPherson also posted a 6-3 win against LIU in the NEC Championship final to aid Binghamton to another title.

Up next, the Bearcats take on No. 8 Columbia in the NCAA Championship First Round, Friday, May 2. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. at the Milstein Family Tennis Center in New York, N.Y.
