VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton baseball (29-24) will continue its postseason this weekend in Athens, Ga. The Bearcats, fresh off a week's stay in Orono, Maine that resulted in the program's sixth America East championship, will join Duke (37-19) and Oklahoma State (28-23) in the four-team regional, hosted by the SEC power Bulldogs (42-15) at Foley Field. The NCAA revealed its 64-team national tournament bracket on ESPN2 Monday afternoon, and a jammed room of Bearcat fans and supporters gathered to watch the Selection Show.
Fourth-seeded Binghamton will face top-seeded Georgia on Friday, with second-seeded Duke and third-seeded Oklahoma State meeting in the other first-round game. The winners and losers will square off on Saturday, with the regional continuing on Sunday and Monday if necessary.
Binghamton will be making its sixth overall NCAA Regional appearance in the last 16 years and second in the last four, having competed at the 2022 Stanford Regional.
"All 16 regional sites are filled with great hosts but Georgia is a special place," 33-year head coach
Tim Sinicki said. "They have such a great tradition, having won national championships and being regulars not just in the NCAA tournament but with trips to Omaha. Coming out of the SEC you know they will be a quality ballclub. We're excited. Athens is a great college town and it will be a great environment. I know our players and staff are looking forward to heading down there Wednesday."
On Sunday, Binghamton punched its ticket with a dramatic 6-5 11-inning victory over top-seeded and defending champion Bryant in the winner-take-all game at Maine's Mahaney Diamond. Sinicki's squad became the first America East team in 11 years to win four tournament games en route to the title. Binghamton also became the first No. 3 seed to win the title since the Bearcats did it back in 2014. The Bearcats have now won 12 combined regular season and tournament titles in the last 18 years – the most of any America East program.
The Bearcats will enter the tournament having won seven of their last nine games.
