Lawson, Rogacki and Mui honors for athletic and academic excellence

VESTAL, N.Y. - Junior softball infielder Emma Lawson, senior baseball utility player Zach Rogacki and senior women's track & field distance runner Jennifer Mui have been named the America East Scholar-Athletes for their sports for the 2024-25 academic year. The announcement was made by the conference office on Monday afternoon.

In order to be eligible for the America East Scholar-Athlete award for their sport, a student-athlete must have been a starter or prominent reserve on their team and have maintained at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA. All Sport Scholar-Athletes are automatically eligible for the America East Female or Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards, which will be announced in July.

Lawson played a pivotal role during the softball team's sweep of both the America East regular-season and tournament championships. She was both a first-team National Fastpitch Coaches' Association (NFCA) All-Northeast Region selection as well as a first-team all-conference honoree. In addition, Lawson was named an ECAC All-Star.

Lawson won the America East batting title with a .379 average and ranked second with 51 RBI. She was also named to the America East All-Tournament Team after going 4-for-9 (.444) with a home run and team-best five RBI. At the ensuing Oregon NCAA Regional, Lawson went 2-for-6 (.333) with a team-high four RBI.

Academic honors have come in bunches this year for Lawson. After being inducted into the National College Athlete Honor Society in April, she was chosen to the America East All-Academic Team in May as well as the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team earlier this month.

Lawson is the third Binghamton softball player ever to earn sport Scholar-Athlete honors from the America East. She joins current Bearcat head coach Jess Bump (2013) and Gabby Bracchi (2017).

Rogacki was a key contributor during the baseball team's run to the America East championship. He was named first-team all-conference and was also chosen to the America East All-Tournament Team.

Rogacki ranked fourth in the America East with a .361 batting average, homered eight times and drove in 43 runs. In the conference tournament, he finished with eight hits and six RBI.

At the conclusion of the conference tournament, Rogacki was presented with the America East's Elite 18 Award as the student-athlete with the highest GPA among anyone competing in the championship round.

Rogacki is the third baseball player to have been named an America East Scholar-Athlete. He joins Brendon Hitchcock (2006 & 2007) and Jake Thomas (2014).

Mui, meanwhile, won her second straight 3,000 Steeplechase (SC) title at the America East Outdoor Championships last month. She advanced to the NCAA East Region Meet for the first time in her career after being ranked No. 40 in the 3,000 SC at the end of season. At the East Region Meet, she placed 37th overall in that event.

Earlier in the month, Mui was named to both the America East All-Academic Team as well as the CSC Academic All-District Team.

Mui is the second Binghamton women's track & field athlete ever to earn Scholar-Athlete honors from the America East. She joins Emily Mackay, who swept the award during both the 2022 indoor and outdoor seasons.

Since joining the America East Conference in 2001, Binghamton has posted 60 conference Scholar-Athletes across all sports.
