Josh Stone Hired as Assistant XC/Distance Track Coach

Recent alum returns to alma mater

VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton cross country & distance track program has announced the hiring of Josh Stone as its new assistant coach. He is no stranger to the Bearcat program, having concluded a standout career this past spring. In addition, Stone was a team captain the past three seasons.

"We are absolutely thrilled to add Josh to our coaching staff," head cross country and distance coach Annette Acuff said. "His hire will be a seamless transition for our program.  Josh will be an excellent mentor for our student-athletes and will be able to offer a first hand experience."

"It's a tremendous honor to return to Binghamton in this new role," Stone said. "This program has shaped me both athletically and personally, and I'm grateful for the chance to give back as a coach. I'm excited about the direction we're headed and eager to help our athletes reach new heights—both on and off the course."

Stone was a four-time America East individual track champion in the men's 5,000. He swept the event at the 2024 and 2025 conference indoor and outdoor meets. Stone was named the Men's Most Outstanding Performer at the 2025 America East Indoor Meet.

In cross country, Stone earned first-team all-conference honors three times during his career. He placed a career-best third overall at the 2023 meet, was fifth in 2024 and seventh in 2022. Stone led the Bearcats to a runner-up finish at the 2022 America East Championships as well as third-place finishes the past two years.

Stone was just as impressive in the classroom. He earned SUNY Chancellor Scholar-Athlete honors during the most recent cross country and indoor track campaigns. Stone was also named to the America East All-Academic Team during the 2024-25 cross country, indoor track and outdoor track seasons.

Binghamton opens up its 2025 season on Aug. 30 at the Colgate/Harry Lang Invitational.
