Cross Country Teams Place Third in Paul Short Brown Races

Mayclim 10th in men’s race, Leitner 12th in women’s event

VESTAL, N.Y. – Sophomore Bobby Mayclim placed 10th in the men's Brown Race while senior Sydney Leitner was 12th overall in the women's Brown Race, highlighting Binghamton's performance at the Lehigh Paul Short Run on Friday morning at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course. In the team standings, the Bearcat men were third out of 38 teams while the women finished third out of 39 squads.

Mayclim covered the men's 8,000-meter course in a time of 24:41. He is the highest Binghamton finisher in the Paul Short Brown Race since Dan Schaffer won the event in 2018.

Other men's medalists for Binghamton on Friday were junior Liam Cody in 24th place (25:07) and senior Andrew Rosenblatt (25:08) in 25th place. Medalist honors went to the top 25 individual finishers in each race at the Paul Short Run.

The three Binghamton medalists represent its highest total ever in the Paul Short Brown Race. The Bearcats posted a pair of medalists (Matt Goyden in 12th place and Daryn Hutchings in 14th place) back in 2019.

Finishing the team scoring for the Bearcat men on Friday were sophomore Nick Thomas in 34th place (25:19) and freshman Anthony Zazzaro in 57th place (25:38). In addition, graduate student Asa Friedrich was 58th (25:58) while sophomore Oliver Jibb finished 82nd (25:51). 

Winning the individual title in the men's Brown Race was Mike Formica of Indiana (Pa.) with a time of 24:18. George Washington, meanwhile, captured the men's team title with 47 points, followed by American (117) and Binghamton (145).

There were 314 finishers in the men's Brown Race.

Leitner, meanwhile, clocked a 6,000-meter time of 21:16. In the process, she became Binghamton's highest finisher ever in the women's Brown Race. Alexis Hatcher held the previous top performance with a 13th-place finish in 2014.

Also earning medalist honors for the women on Friday were sophomore Anna Gansrow in 20th place (21:34) as well as freshman Alice Rappazzo in 22nd place (21:36). This marks the first time in program history that the Bearcats have posted multiple medalists in the women's Brown Race.

Completing the team scoring for Binghamton were junior Brynn Hogan in 57th place (22:08) and sophomore Alicia DeFilippis in 72nd place (22:26). In addition, sophomore Eleanor Lees was 96th (22:38). 

Ruth White of New Hampshire captured the women's Brown Race individual title with a time of 20:29. Team championship honors on the women's side also went to George Washington. The Colonials' 99 points placed them ahead of runner-up Iona (154) and Binghamton (177).

There were 328 finishers in the women's Brown Race.
