Cross Country Lands Three AE All-Academic Selections

Leitner, Gansrow and Thomas honored for academic and athletic success

VESTAL, N.Y. - Senior Sydney Leitner as well as sophomores Anna Gansrow and Nick Thomas have been named to the 2025 America East Cross Country All-Academic Teams. The announcement was made on Thursday afternoon by the conference office.

To be eligible for America East All-Academic status, student-athletes must have sophomore athletic eligibility, attain a 3.30 minimum grade-point average and be a contributor on their team. The squad is voted on by a committee of America East student-athlete support and athletic communications administrators as well as faculty athletic representatives. There were 10 men and 10 women chosen to the America East All-Academic Cross Country Teams.

Leitner makes her second appearance on the America East All-Academic Team, having also been picked in 2023. She earned first-team all-conference honors for the fourth straight season with a career-best fourth-place finish at the America East Championships back on Oct. 31.  Two weeks later (Nov. 14), Leitner placed 62nd overall at the season-ending NCAA Northeast Region Meet.

Leitner was named the SUNY Chancellor's Women's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2024 and was inducted into the National College Athlete Honor Society this past April.

Gansrow is on the All-Academic Team for the first time in her career. She earned second-team all-conference honors for the second consecutive season with a career-best 10th-place finish at the America East meet. Gansrow also won the women's individual title at the Canisius Alumni Classic on Oct. 18 and placed a team-best 59th overall at the NCAA Northeast Region Meet.

.In the classroom, Gansrow was named to the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll (3.5 GPA or higher) both semesters during her freshman year.

Thomas also makes his first appearance on the All-Academic Team. He earned first-team all-conference honors at the America East Championships with a career-best fifth-place finish.  Thomas was also 97th overall at the NCAA Northeast Region Meet.

Like Gansrow, Thomas was also named to the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll during both semesters his freshman year.

Since the America East All-Academic Teams were established during the 2005-06 academic year, Binghamton has posted 24 men's cross country selections as well as 19 honorees on the women's side.
