Wrestling welcomes Drexel, Franklin & Marshall to Southern Tier this weekend

Bearcats are coming off dual victory against Buffalo; posting three placewinners at David H. Lehman ’68 Franklin & Marshall Open

VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton wrestling team (4-1, 2-0 EIWA) is welcoming a pair of EIWA opponents to the Events Center this weekend as the Bearcats host Drexel (9-3, 1-0 EIWA) at 6:07 p.m., on Friday and Franklin & Marshall (3-1, 1-0 EIWA) at 2 p.m., on Sunday.
 
The prior week, the Bearcats defeated in-state foe Buffalo 26-7 on Jan. 8 in the West Gym. Binghamton won eight out of 10 bouts, with Fin Nadeau picking up his first technical fall of the season with a 15-0 shutout against Max Nevlin in 5:32 during the 157 lb., match. No. 26 Carter Baer (11-4 at 184 lbs.), Carson Wagner (4-2 at 125 lbs.), Dillon Arrick (7-1 at133 lbs.), Ryan Hartung (2-0 at 141 lbs.), Jordan Brown (7-0 at 174 lbs.), Mikey Squires (4-1 at 197 lbs.) and Cayden Bevis (4-1 at 285 lbs.) each also won their respective bouts against Buffalo via a decision.
 
The following day on Jan. 9, 22 Binghamton wrestlers competed at the David H. Lehman Franklin & Marshall Open in Lancaster, Pa. Three of them finished on the podium with Squires, Wagner and heavyweight Trent Sibble each tying for fifth. Luke Geleta also just missed out on making the podium after the freshman went 4-2 at 149 lbs.
 
Fans have an opportunity to take part in a special promotion during each dual this weekend. For the Bearcats' contest against Drexel on Friday, fans are invited to attend and cheer on the Bearcats as part of their BinghamPIN dual. On Sunday, youth wrestlers are welcome to watch Binghamton take on Franklin & Marshall. After the dual, Bearcat wrestlers will be available to sign team posters for fans in attendance. Admission to all of Binghamton's home duals is free on behalf of the New York Army National Guard.

Drexel Notes
  • The Dragons are 9-3 this season, having won their only EIWA dual of the year so far against Morgan State 38-9 on Nov. 16.
  • Drexel has also won duals against No. 25 Purdue 19-16, Duke 37-4, Cal Poly 24-11, Cal Baptist 21-18, Bloomsburg 41-3, Ohio 37-6, Cal State Bakersfield 36-6 and Northern Illinois 21-12.
  • The Dragons' three losses this year have each come against a ranked opponent in No. 1 Penn State 41-3, No. 14 Rutgers 28-12 and No. 16 Northern Iowa 22-16.
  • In the latest NWCA Division I Men's Coaches Poll, Drexel received 14 votes, the most for any team not ranked. The Dragons were also ranked No. 7 in the NWCA's first Men's Mid-Major Coaches Poll of the season on Jan. 7.
  • In its most recent appearance, Drexel finished third at the NWCA Mid-Major National Duals in Cedar Falls Iowa. The Dragons went 4-1 over the course of the two-day tournament.
  • Drexel features three wrestlers ranked in both the InterMat and FloWrestling polls. Desmond Pleasant (125 lbs.), Jasiah Queen (174 lbs.) and Nate Schon (285 lbs.) are each nationally-ranked, with Queen qualifying for nationals in 2025. At that season's NCAA tournament, Queen was defeated by current Binghamton assistant coach Brevin Cassella in the opening round of the 174 lb., bracket 3-1.
  • Jordan Soriano, who also qualified for nationals in 2025, is the reigning EIWA Wrestler of the Week following his performance at the Mid-Major National Duals. Soriano won all five of his matches at 141 lbs., throughout the tournament, including a 10-8 decision over No. 9 Cory Land of Northern Iowa. Additionally, Soriano recorded his first two pins of the season during the first day of the event. Soriano enters Friday's dual with nine wins overall, having recorded three major decisions and one technical fall.

Franklin & Marshall Notes
  • The Diplomats have picked up dual victories over EIWA opponent LIU 27-11, Davidson 25-13 and Presbyterian 31-10. Franklin & Marshall's only loss this season came against Air Force 27-14.
  • No. 7 James Conway, who previously qualified for nationals in 2024, leads all Division I wrestlers in both wins (24) and technical falls (10). This season, the senior became the first-ever Franklin & Marshall wrestler to win the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational and the David H. Lehman '68 Franklin & Marshall Open. Conway also won the Keystone Classic for the second time in his career back in November. Additionally, Conway has recorded seven wins against nationally-ranked opponents, including two top-10 victories at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational in No. 7 Brock Mantanona of Michigan 5-0 and No. 10 Isaac Dean of Iowa State 9-5.
  • The Keystone Classic also featured five other placewinners for Franklin & Marshall in James Garcia (fourth at 125 lbs.), Mason Leiphart (fourth at 133 lbs.), Bryce Kresho (eighth at 141 lbs.), Pat Phillips (eighth at 149 lbs.) and RJ Moore (eighth at 197 lbs.).
  • Both Josh Hillard and Garcia reached the Consolation Round of 12 at the Ken Kraft Midlands Championships in December, missing the medal rounds by one match.
