VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton wrestling team (4-1, 2-0 EIWA) won eight out of 10 matches to defeat in-state rival Buffalo (2-8, 1-2 MAC) 26-7 Thursday at the West Gym.
"I thought it was a solid team performance, and we did a good job finding ways to win a lot of tight matches," said Binghamton Head Wrestling Coach
Ryan LeBlanc. "As we continue to grow, I would like to see our guys open up their matches more, take risks and continue to push the pace."
Highlights
- The Bearcats started out by winning the first three matches via a decision. Carson Wagner opened the dual with a 4-2 victory over Zachary Belvario at 125 lbs. Dillon Arrick followed that with a 7-1 win over Max Elton at 133 lbs. Ryan Hartung closed out that stretch by shutting out Tyler Roark 2-0 at 141 lbs.
- Fin Nadeau secured his second technical fall of the season by defeating Max Nevlin 15-0 in 5:32. Nadeau registered four back points on two separate occasions to ultimately win the 157 lb., bout and improve to 11-5 on the season.
- Both No. 25 Carter Baer and Jordan Brown picked up a win after each wrestler moved up one weight class for the dual. Brown stepped up at 174 lbs., to shut out Giorgio Valenzuela 7-0. In the following match at 184 lbs., Baer defeated Rafael Knapp 11-4.
- Mikey Squires extended his undefeated start to the season by beating Connor Jacobs 4-1 at 197 lbs. With the win, Squires improves to 5-0 in his first season at Binghamton.
- Cayden Bevis closed out the contest by getting his first dual victory of the year when he took down Magnus Bibla 4-1 in the heavyweight bout.
