VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton golf team is set to host the latest edition of its home tournament, the Matthews Auto Collegiate Golf Invitational, from Sunday through Monday at The Links at Hiawatha Landing in Apalachin, N.Y.
The Bearcats welcome 12 other teams to the Southern Tier for the 36-hole tournament, which is held annually on the first weekend of October. Joining Binghamton in the field are golfers from Bucknell, Canisius, Iona, La Salle, Lafayette, Laval, Le Moyne, Mercyhurst, Saint Peter's, St. Bonaventure, Trinity College and Wagner. The Bearcats will have all nine of their golfers competing in this tournament.
Binghamton has enjoyed recent success at its home tournament, finishing in second place in this event in each of the last three years. In their last appearance at this event in 2025, the Bearcats shot 277-286 = 563/13-under par. That is the second-lowest score relative to par the Bearcats put up for 36 holes in program history. It is one stroke behind the record of 14-under par that Binghamton shot to win the 2018 Matthews Auto Intercollegiate.
The Bearcats enter this weekend with momentum after competing in the inaugural Central New York Challenge Cup last Monday. In the tri-match against Colgate and Le Moyne, Binghamton finished with the lowest overall score of the three programs at 308-292 = 600/28-over par, while finishing second in the cup standings with 12.5 points, only trailing Colgate's 18.5.
For their performance in the month of September, both
Enzo Allain and
Alex Patel were named Prime Performers by the NEC on Thursday. Allain has had a strong start to his collegiate career. The freshman recently finished in third place at the Central New York Challenge Cup, shooting 72-73 = 145/1-over par. That came after he tied for 25th at both the Alex Lagowitz Memorial (73-70-75 = 218/2-over par) and The Goat (76-72-72 = 220/7-over par). Patel, meanwhile, tied for seventh at the CNY Challenge Cup with a score of 78-74 = 152/9-over par. The sophomore previously tied for 27th at the Alex Lagowitz Memorial (70-72-77 = 219/3-over par).
The first round of the Matthews Auto Collegiate Golf Invitational tees off at 9 a.m., on Sunday. The final round begins Monday at 9 a.m. Both rounds will have double tee times.
